My Breakdown for the Heavyweights of 2008

Arguably the worst division of boxing right now is slowly goin in the right direction. For 2008 this is how I see it:
Klitschko will beat and probably KO a in-over his head Povetkin then fight Thompson to a UD and by that time it will be late 2008/early 2009 and hopefully David Haye will be on the horizon.
Samuel Peter will KO Maskaev this weekend then fight Virchis(?) and that fight I'd have Peter winning by UD. After the Virchis fight I bet there is rumblings of Vitali coming back or a unification fight but sorry I don't have a safe bet on what's after Virchis.
Ruslan Chagaev I'm praying to god and allah and whoever the hell else I have to for him to beat Valuev. Valuev winnin WBA will be horrible for the division since he's such a boring fighter. Chagaev should go in prance around hit and run and then hug like last time and come out with the UD in Germany. The winner of the Valuev fight should fight maybe Sam Peter or Sasha Dimitrenko.

Hopefully Mesi fights someone good this year and maybe move his way up seein how he gettin old. Haye comin to the division will be great and I'll hop on the band wagon. Eddie Chambers should get back on track I thought he showed some real talent in the Povetkin fight but he's got mental problems in the ring. Chazz Witherspoon, JD Chapman Travis Walker, Kevin Johnson, Chris Arrreola and Odlanier Solis all should be lookin up on the heavyweight ladder for someone to fight and hopefully this year turns out a lot better then last year for the heavyweight division.

I'm not really sure how it's worse than CW (with Haye in his last fight there, who is left?), JMW (Cory Spinks is the #1 fighter, nuff said) or LW (Juan Diaz, then who?). Sure it could be better, but there are some young, talented fighters like Povetkin, Chambers, Haye, Dimitrenko, etc that should make for some enteresting matchups this year with guys like Wlad, Peter, Maskaev, etc.

Arreola, Johnson, and Witherspoon all have some talent. They just need to continue to be active and take a step up.

Joey Abell is my favorite American heavyweight. He fought and won nine times last year, seven against fighters with winning records, and won the first eight by KO. In his last fight against Teke Oruh (13-0), he broke his hand in the second round, then had to outbox his fairly skillful opponent for the rest of the fight since he couldn't hit hard. He won the decision despite the broken hand...

After being inactive for four months while his hand healed, he's back in action on Sunday against a warm-up tomato can opponent. He has two more fights already scheduled after that!

Word is, Klitschko will fight Thompson next. After that, he might try to postpone Povetkin fight and fight one more unification fight.
I actually would like to see Chagaev win the fight with Valuev as well and finally fight Wlad at the end of this year.
I truly hope to see Vitali in the ring, hopefully he can make it through his training camp (although I doubt it) and fight Peter next. Vitali was promised the shot at the winner of Peter/Maskaev during that 3-months long negotiation between him, Peter, Maskaev, and WBC. Peter should win over Maskaev with relative ease.

I'd like to see Vitali fight Peter, if the fight can happen this year. If Vit doesn't fight this year, I hope he retires and doesn't make an ill-fated comeback way past his best.

Peter should beat a 39 yo Maskaev who hasn't fought in 15 months, but after seeing the McCline fight, I'm not so sure. The most likely outcome is Peter by TKO, but I wouldn't be shocked if Oleg pulled the upset.

At crusier you have Bell, Mormeck, and Cunningham.

At JMW you have Forrest and hopefully Mayorga.

At LW you have Katsidis, Cruz, Casamayor, David Diaz, Kahn, Anthony Peterson, Thaxton. LW is loaded right now.

JMW might be weaker, but I wouldn't say LW or Crusier are. Maybe Crusier, but not LW.

Kahn is a ways away from any kind of title shot, Katsidis is extremely overrated, Casamayor has one foot in the grave and one foot on a banana peel, Anthony Peterson has yet to face a live body and is further from the picture than Kahn, David Diaz barely sc****d by a completely shot Morales.

I won't even comment on Mayorga, though I do find his style entertaining at times, Forrest I'll give you but his days are numbered.

wow that comment might've been better not said. That wouldn't be good at all and Ruiz?! He ain't even fun to watch, punch an clinch all night long. Joey Abell I've only seen fight once and he didn't show much againt Okruh but that's the first I heard he had broken his hand so I'll try and watch him sunday.
