Speaking with BBC's Inside Sport, Evander Holyfield, 45, became defensive over the criticism regarding a potential third bout with Mike Tyson, 41. Holyfield revealed last week that Jeff Fenech, on behalf of Tyson, contacted him to inquire if he was interested in a trilogy bout. Following Holyfield's disclosure, criticism rained down from all corners of the sport. [details]

Who would touch this? Only Don King would be interested, but neither fighter wants anything to do with him.
HBO/Showtime? No chance. It would be an independently produced PPV by some Morad Muhammed-type who promises the fighters millions but only ends up paying them chicken feed. Bad idea all around.
Not to mention boxing would be destroyed and compared to pro wrestling by all the mainstream media...Comment

I can't believe I'm going to quote this, but to keep it flashy, I'd have to say, "If it makes dollars, it makes sense". It would make money. Unfortunately, I think everyone thinks boxing is hurting and trying to compete with mma, they're willing to do whatever it takes. Which is why we've had fights like Trinidad/Jones. People will watch. I think it's fine as long as they come out in great shape. Holyfield will, but Tyson is questionable imo. As long as it's not a spectacle. Both are past thier prime, but so what.Comment

This would only make money if both fighters agreed to get paid less than 10 million each. Tito made about 10 mil and Roy, well who knows, but that fight had the whole "Tito-in-MSG" aura, plus he wasn't 6 years removed from a big fight, only 2.5.I can't believe I'm going to quote this, but to keep it flashy, I'd have to say, "If it makes dollars, it makes sense". Tyson is way gone, and Holyfield just got shut out by Ibragimov. There is definite sideshow intrigue here, but not enough to sell out an arena and not enough to get more than a few hundred thousand PPV buys. Remember the Tyson World Tour? Me either, until I just thought of how embarrassingly bad the ONE show did.Comment
