I really don't think there is another rational choice. Everything about this rivalry made it the more extreme. You had the kid born in a boxing gym in the worst section of Mexico and the middle class Mexico city university educated opposite. That alone was enough to put both factions against each other completely.

Not only that but they had a pure and genuine dislike for each other. Many are put on, many forgotten after they fight and many gain respect for each other after they fight, but not these two. It only got worse the more they fought!

Of course, both of them being from where they were, you also had the opposites in terms of fan support as well and the fact you had one guy who was much more of a boxer and the other more of a brawler. So it was also a classic match up of differing styles as well.

Not only all the above but you had the controversial decisions and neither of them getting the true upperhand in their fights apart from maybe the last one which Barrera won convincingly. Everything about this rivalry was set to make it one of the most exciting, bitter and extreme rivalries because of the polar opposites and amount of difference. Not only do I think this was the greatest Mexican rivalry, I would definitely put it up the very top with the greatest rivalries of all time, maybe even the best along with Ali/Frazier. Only their fights were better in my opinion!

I've a feeling this fight tonight could make Vazquez Marquez trilogy on a par with Barrera Morales.

It really is living up to it.

The surprising thing is, you would have never expected it, because their first fight is going to end up being the one that was a bit sub-par (even though it is still phenominal compared to 99% of other fights).

        These guys are ****ing incredible.

Yeah but as Benny mentioned the Barrera Morales fight was so important culturally.

When I say this fight could be on a par, I mean based on action in the ring.

            Definately.

These guys don't actually hate each other, and don't have an important regional battle going on between them.

Barrera-Morales were two guys who personally hated each other and really were the anti-thesis of one another.
