"He can take more of the money, I'm coming to take his 0 and his title!"
Editor: Wink, I'm sure you're phones been ringing with all of the buzz . I know you're aware of Pavlik's remarks, what do you think about what he and his trainer Jack Loew had to say?
Winky Wright: "Most of what they was saying is cool, I'm glad they want the fight and it's cool that they think they can win. My things is this, all of that talk about Winky Wright not being a draw is crazy but we're going to get to that G. After reading what they say, it sounds like they're thinking I'm going to price myself out of this fight. I'm came on saying I want the fight, and I meant it. I have no problem giving Kelly Pavlik more money than I make, so what are they going to come up with next?"
Editor: So let me get this straight, you'll give Kelly Pavlik the lion's share of the money available?
Winky Wright: "Yep. I'll let him take more money, I'm coming to take his 0 and his title."
Editor: You could have done the same thing as it related to the Taylor rematch, why the change of heart?
WW: "It ain't no change of heart. Jermian is Jermain and Pavlik is Pavlik. I gave Jermain the lion's share for the first fight, I just wanted 50-50 for the rematch. I didn't take it and that's the past, we're not talking about Jermain right now we're talking about Pavlik, but I'm glad you brought Jermain up. Pavlik was doing all this talking about Winky Wright ain't no draw, well how come Winky Wright-Jermain Taylor did a higher rating than your first fight with Jermain Taylor? We did a 7.7 rating, what did they do? I was in the second biggest PPV fight in 2006, me and Bernard did 380,000 PPV'S in a fight they said nobody wanted to see. I ain't never do no horrible numbers like he just did with Jermain.
"I ain't never did less than 200,000 for no PPV and there's no way a fight with me and him is doing less than he did with Jermain. If HBO puts up enough money, we could fight on HBO World Championship Boxing just like me and Jermain did the first time and just he and Jermain did the first time. I'm sure if Arum really wanted the fight, all he would have to do is call Richard Schaefer on the phone, and they'd be able to make the numbers where everybody is happy, because that's what he's good at. He's fair and he knows what fights are worth."
Editor: We'll keep it short, because I'm sure there's going to be much more to follow. Closing thoughts?
WW: "What's Bob Arum and them going to say now? The only thing they could say is they don't want the fight, period. Either that or he just knows I beat his boy and he ain't trying to take that risk. He only wants to give the fans the fights that matter when it's suitable to him. Don't nobody want to see Pavlik fight anybody but Winky Wright, somebody in your mailbag said it best, it's the only fight that matters at 160. If Kelly really wants the fight all he needs to do is call his father Bob and ask for permission to give the fans what they want to see."
