Why don't fighters have 'stay busy' or 'tune-up' fights much anymore?

Why don't fighters have 'stay busy' or 'tune-up' fights much anymore?

I really dont get it. For people that havent had knockouts in a while, why dont they just have a non-title fight and beat the **** out of a tomato can, just to remind people that they are only 'boxing' because they are in the ring with high calibur fighters, and they would destroy normal people.

I mean, the 'big' name fighters nowadays only fight 2 times a year...and by that time, theyre only on PPV or HBO so not everyone can see them. guys like Julio Cesar Chavez would go fight decent, but definately not great fighters in Mexico just for his fans. why dont fighters do that kind of stuff?

I think if its someone like Mayweather though, cause he at least keeps busy with goofy stuff that puts his name out there. but someone like De La Hoya? go fight a bum on ESPN for us, so that everyone can get a chance to watch it regardless if they have HBO or not, and it would make De La Hoya look good.

Its a great idea, but they don't want to work that hard when there making big money?

The sad part if they were to do this is that some ignorant fans would then say they fought bums there whole career. Sadly some posters here have said this about Chavez.

Because they're lazy as **** and they can't get every single fight to be televised for millions of dollars.

Rest assured that if I ever make it to the top I'll be pretty active. At least 4 fights a year. AT LEAST.

That still isn't **** compared to the old-timers, but it's better than what's going on right now.

lol Yeah I know, but I mean back when guys were fighting too often. Top guys used to fight 10 or 12 times a year. Floyd would never even consider that.

"JCC's record is completely padded. He only fought like 30 real contenders and the rest were bums."

hahahaha. that **** made me spill my coke. "only 30". haha.

It feels great to have someone like Cristian Mijares around. he actually did fight 4 times last year, and those were actually all title defense. Even if one of them wasnt very good, I could care less, hes fighting often. I really wonder how many times hes going to fight this year, he already has got a fight done and over with.

if youre fighting a bum just to look awesome and get a fun knockout that people can admire, it really shouldnt be all that dangerous or threatening. it would help others that arent very into boxing or dont have premium channels get to see the fighters(if they fight on ESPN/Telemundo/etc.), and make them have more loyal fans if they keep going to certain places to fight. theyre easy, profitable investments for later fights if you ask me.

yea, but I could care less about that. people that say that about Chavez just dont really know what theyre saying, and are quoting fighters Chavez simply destroyed(like Haugen).

I think that even if you would get a few guys who think you only fight bums when youre 'staying busy', you would get a ton of new fans just because theyve got the chance to see you/are impressed by the knockout/shutout.
