So far the poll is about even! That's an indication of why it would be a great matchup...

Duddy would just be a predictable win for Kelly, Wright is a much better choice.

Remember the criticism about Kelly Pavlik right now? All he throws are 1-2's?

That seems to be perfect for the Wright defense.

Winky counterjabs his way to a decision IMO.
I watched the Taylor Pavlik fight again and Pavlik did land a few decent left hooks when he got inside Taylor's jab but it was that jab and Taylor fast hands that was that was on his mind preventing him from throwing more left hooks. Still, there is room for improvement there.

I've said alot of times how I think about this fight. Wright cant stand in front of him and not get hurt or win. Taylor is not in his most comfortable element being the total agressor, not comfortable in that fight and was out of whack backing up and other wierd things against Wright but still a draw.

I think winky will *deserve* a UD, but if its close, say he deserves 116-112, the judges will jermain taylor him again. i dont think the powers that be will want a rising undefeated star to lose his O to an old, relatively unpopular winky

if you look at pavlik's 2nd fight with taylor, you'll notice he was much less effective when taylor started putting his hands up. Winky is the master at this, and pavlik will have to diversify his offense if he wants a chance. his biggest wins were against guys who couldnt really box, and he doesnt have 1-punch KO power, so I can't see him deserving a decision or KO'in him

Wright would not be able to hold his his arms for 12 rounds against Pavlik's assult and Pavlik would be break his guard.

And Taylor cant really box? I dont agree with that. I think Taylor is a better more complete boxer than than Wright and most.

whether winky can hold up has arms is something none of us will really know

but pavlik consistently breaking his guard is something i can't see. somebody whos main offense is going in a straight line forward throwing jabs and crosses is something that a defensive master can have an easy time with. if you look at winky/taylor, taylor did best in the middle of the ring. why? because he circled and created angles, pavlik does not do this.

and taylor is widely known to make very basic mistakes, especially on defense. he keeps his hands low, his head forward, and has balance issues. he improved a lot with his last fight, just by keeping his hands up, and many think he actually won the fight despite throwing few punches. winky's D is much better than his, and would throw more punches than taylor did, which is why i see a clear ud for him

He hits like a slegehammer. He's going pound on his arms, or knock his arms out of the way, If Wright cant keep Pavlik's attack totally bogged down with his jab than his trademark style of figthing isn't going to work. And Kelly does mix the offense up more than he's given credit for, it was difficult to set up the hook against Taylor because of the movement he was using and his jab and handspeed but Winky is much much more of a target.

Also you talk about how Pavlik offense is mostly straightforward straight punches. I agree it is, but so is is Wright and the punches that Pavlik is most vulernable to, that he has to really worry about is those looping type punches he gets hit with after he's done throwing because he's leaning in. He sort of gets hit blind by them and against Zuniga and Taylor he got knocked down as a result. Pavlik does a good job at stopping straight ahead offense, more than he given credit for. I liked Taylor's jab when you combine everything else about him more than Wright's.
At least I did in Taylor's most recent fight. I was very impressed with his jab.

you can argue pavlik is stronger than taylor, but if he is it isnt by that much, and winky had no problems keeping his hands up vs taylor. and even if pavlik were to throw hooks, the point is he goes in a straight line, no angles, no lateral movement, which is what you need to do against winky

and imo pavlik gets hit with the jab just as much as every other punch, taylor didn't do bad percentage wise against him, and winky has a better, more consistent jab than taylor
