Arum on Cotto-fighting winner of Marg-Cintron

Interviewer: If Cotto and Margarito are both victorious on April 12th, will they fight each other next? Or will Joshua Clottey fight the winner, and Cotto go in a different direction?

BA: No, Cotto would fight the winner of Cintron-Margarito, if he beats Gomez.

Interviewer: So, the gameplan is if you're guys win, they are going to fight each other, that's where it's going to go?

BA: Exactly. If my guys win, my guys will fight each other.

Interviewer: How come Joshua Clottey's mandatory doesn't mean as much to you now as it did when I asked you about unifying the titles with Cintron and Cotto?

BA: Joshua would fight for the vacant title, because the winner of Cintron-Margarito in order to fight Cotto would have to vacate the IBF title. Otherwise it wouldn't be fair to Clottey.

Interviewer: If your guys both win, and they both fight each other it wouldn't be for a unification. It would only be for Cotto's belt, and Clottey would fight for the vacant title.

BA: That's right, one sanctioning fee

Id rather have Cotto have the 2 belts as more of a bargining chip to fight Floyd but at the same time i think its the fair thing to do as Clottey deserves a title shot and pretty much got ****ed out of one so that this fight finally happens...a good consolation for my man Joshua...i have to say thats good looking out on Arums part.

yeah i want clottey to get a shot, and i want to at least see cotto vs marg or cintron. floyd will have to fight the winners eventually once they all fight, and sort themselves out! at least i hop he does!

Good news, this is the first step in Cotto's try to clean out the welterweight division until he is the last one standing so will Mayweather have to fight him.

That is kind of BS... so Margarito vs. Cintron might as well not be for a belt, since they will have to vacate it as soon as they sign on to fight Clottey. IBF says that a fighter has 12 months to fight as many fights as they want before the mandatory has to get a shot... Why is Bob Arum messing with that???

no he won't because if cottos makes that it will make mayweather's picture dissapear from the welterweight division he won't need to fight mayweathwe.

true if you care about belts, but i am more concerned with the best matchups at welter so i am hoping it happens!

I absolutely agree with you, but the winner of cintron/marg v. cotto/gomez (i put gomez down, just to be nice to him because he seems like a nice guy. delusional, but nice.) would have been for a unification of two major belts, which could have been dangled in front of floyds face. Floyd could not say "what does he bring to the table?". a guy with two belts would bring those belts, plus he would get a lot of press for having those two belts, and in turn would bring money, which seems to be all that floyd is interested in (sort of like a crack whore).

In this case that arum presents, the winner of that huge fight would have to fight clottey to get the IBF belt back and risk the WBA title in that fight, instead of fighting him as the IBF mandatory and only risking the IBF title... Clottey is a good fighter, but he absolutely does not deserve the right of fighting for a second major belt that easily. Can you imagine Clottey ending up with two belts having won only one fight??????
