i agree with this and thats why i dont think its worth talking about. if vitali wins, he will likely want to make an optional defense against rahman, provided rahman can actually win one more fight against a relevent opponent. after that he will evaluate where he stands.

wlad will likely have to fight thompson and povetkin at some point, and if he chooses to pursue the WBA next a fight against chagev/valuev. that means vitali has give/take 12-16 months to hold the WBC belt before wlad will even have the path cleared to fight for it without having been stripped of the others. that will give vitali time to clear up any unfinished business he may have. at the point he would vacate the belt a rematch between wladamir and peter would be an relevant and marketable rematch for the interim title

Vitali should stay retired I doubt very much that he could last 12 hard rounds now without getting injured, he has had so many injury’s that he should stay happily retired before he does any permanent damage to his body.

Thanks #1, I appreciate it. I don't often get compliments these days, rather the opposite. Perhaps in these technologically marvellous days, the attention spans of some are so short, that they can read something (or look as if they are) and yet not fully absorb the details. I could easily do that myself, except that I was subjected to very anlytical observation and criticism for several years when young, in a very famous lawyer's office, a friend of my late father, who watched me like a hawk. Nearly drove me nuts, but he was right.

So all I do nowadays is annoy people by pointing out the (should-be)obvious. David is a very nice guy and a good, interesting writer. I always look forward to his articles, and rarely am critical of his stuff. Your "selective memorialization", and "fictionalization" are right on the mark, and you said the same thing in a few words that took me ....well you know how long.

As for the Klitschko saga, that would be just the sort of thing that people like they are, would do. I can see Vitaly, in his way, still looking after his "little" brother, retiring as you say, and giving W to opportunity to sweep the lot. That's what loving brothers do. Nobody will ever know you as well as those who grow up with you from birth.

As well as saying that to share the titles was their greatest wish, they also said that it was their "DREAM". Nothing could be stronger or clearer than that. I respect that. At the same time, I think that VK would need at LEAST one tune-up fight before taking on a WBC Champ, no matter whom.
