During the Taylor vs Pavlik II promotion, I had a chance to speak with Lou DiBella on his plans for welterweight contender, Andre Berto. DiBella answered rumors of a three-fight contract Berto had apparently signed with HBO which included a title shot.
“HBO has made a commitment to show Andre two more times. Me as a promoter, I think a title fight could be coming by the end of the year. I was very happy with how he looked against [Michael Trabant] but I think his
defense needs a little bit of work. He’s only 23 years old. A little head movement, more feinting. He’s a superb athlete and I don’t see any reason to rush with him. But I would say two fights down the line, he could be ready for the title fight.”
