Floyd SR: "Floyd Will Have No Problem W/ Cotto

The Mayweather family is known for two things.. Talking trash and boxing. And they’re great at both. Roger Mayweather has an opinion on everything, and we know how much Floyd Mayweather Jr. likes to pop off. Floyd Mayweather Sr. isn’t afraid to say what’s on his mind, and he dropped some gems in an interview with BoxingScene.com.

On a Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto Match:

“I don’t think Cotto would be in the fight to be honest with you. I think Cotto’s style would make Floyd look great. I don’t think Floyd would have any problems with Cotto. Floyd has too much skill for him. He says he wants to fight Floyd, but he don’t really want to fight Floyd. In my personal opinion, I don’t think he really wants that fight. Oscar (De La Hoya) is still the money man, but Floyd is now the money man too. Cotto might get the money, but he might get an ass-whoopin too,”

Mayweather Sr. wasn’t done. He was asked about a Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao match-up, and he’s clearly not a fan of the Pac-Man.

“Is he crazy? Hatton will beat the f**king socks off of Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao, that guy can’t box. All that guy can do is punch. Pacquiao has been with Freddie Roach for all these years and he still can’t box. They put him on the pound-for-pound, he should be on the clown-for-pound list.”

i been sayin this all the time. maybe sum1 will listen to papa Floyd. cotto would be like the baldy and hatton fites. yall need to recognize that. the only ones that dont see that r on my ugly for ugly list and the haters who are also on the list mostly.

Yep they will be surprised how easy Floyd wins this ,, and Im a big fan of Cotto as well , Floyd has too much skill and speed for Cotto simply as that, UD for FM no problems at all .

Although I hardly ever understand what you're trying to say and I wish that you could learn some better grammar and a vocabulary I do think you're very correct on this. Cotto will get taken apart by Mayweather. He doesn't have the skills to be able to beat him. The only thing that he has going for him is size but even that won't matter a great deal because Mayweather is nearly as big and very comfortable at WW.

I think Cotto is the perfect style for Mayweather to look good against. He comes forward and fights a mid-range pressure fight which is exactly the type of fight that Mayweather excels at countering off. Pick off the body shots and counter with short sharp punches inside that Cotto simply has no defense against. He is not good defensively on the inside and is not fast enough to trouble Mayweather. Mayweather picks body shots off very well and has the perfect counter style to really give Cotto problems because he has his hands so high up next to his temples which is perfect for counter uppercuts and hooks after body shots. Also right hands are the perfect weapon to counter with right hands back and Cottos rights are one of his main weapons which are too slow to get through to the point where they could really give Mayweather problems. Cottos inside smothering skills are not good enough to beat Mayweather at which is what he would need to do to beat him. Obviously he can't box Mayweather from the outside.

peeps point to the castillo fite and say Mayweather can be beat with pressure but he was injured in that fite and rematched and won with no problem. every other pressure fighter lost 2.
