By Jake Donovan - With his repeat win over Jermain Taylor now in the books, Kelly Pavlik can now focus on the future. The Taylor bout was fought at a catchweight of 166 lb. While Jermain ventures on in the super middleweight division, the move for Pavlik was one and done as he plans a return to the middleweight division that he presently rules. [details]

Lol, this is kind of quick...
It was Hopkins forever, and we were looking for the next great contender. Jermain Taylor filled the role. He defended it four times, and then another great contender stepped up in Kelly Pavlik. He has defended the belt once and we are already praying for another middleweight contender?

I just think they mean contender as in opponents who stand a chance, not as in someone who will take the title. Hopkins didnt really have any contenders till the end of his reign and because of that people like to question his resume, Im sure thats not something Kelly wants to go through, but with the middle weight division empty besides a few overrated euros he might face that problem. At least Hopkins had legitimate 154 lb fighters willing to move up, but that division is pretty weak as well right now. This hurts Kelly because unless he moves up there are really no big fights to be made yet defending his title is something he wants to do.Lol, this is kind of quick...

"Legit 154 lbers" vs. "overrated Euros." I'll tell you what, Abraham is a much tougher customer at 160 than Trinidad, Wright, or DLH were.I just think they mean contender as in opponents who stand a chance, not as in someone who will take the title. Bt the way this was a very informative article.
I have one question for the author: why would the winner of Zuniga/Lorenzo vs. Abraham not be, in your eyes, a legit contender? Assuming it's not Zuniga who emerges, the winner would have compiled a resume at least as good as Pavlik's was before fighting Taylor (Abraham will have beaten Miranda and Zuniga, just like Kelly; or Lorenzo will have beaten Zuniga and a guy who beat Miranda, and so better than Kelly's).Comment

If we can get Abraham to move out of Germany, I think he would do ok. I think Kelly wants to unify, but he'd be mad to go to Germany. All non German fighters should refuse to fight there in protest at the appalling standard of reffing and judgingComment

Just to clear things up.
Kelly Pavlik does not have to unify he is already the linear champ. Which means any middleweight holding an alphabet title is a contender to Pavlik, not an equal.
Kelly has not defended the title yet. The rematch with Jermain was a catch weight no title on the line.
Andy Lee is not ranked in top 10 by anybody other than Steward.Comment
