joe really can't say much as far as fighting smaller guys, because he's been fighting guys that have moved up in weight too!
and the guys that he has fought that has moved down in weight weren't any body for him to be scared of or guys that weren't a threat...........
all the guys that were smaller than hopkins were guys that dropped 30-40 pounds in order to fight at the lower weights, so in reality, they were walking around at middle and super middleweight and in trinidad's case he was walking around at cruiser half the time between his fights.
joe should respect that fact that he is the same as hopkins when it comes to this statement of fighting smaller guys since he too has stayed at the same weight his whole career.
to me, for both joe and hopkins, i personally think that it is a harder task to stay at the same weight then it is to move up. most of the time guys drop weight just so they have an advantage with their power, so when they grow up and their body and habits grow and change, they move up in weight because THEY DON'T BELONG THERE, nature is telling them that there natural weight is above where they are fighting. the discipline it takes to stay at the same weight is something 95% of the people and fighters can't stick with, it has proven harder stay at the same weight then it is to move up in weight where you are more natural.
now the thing i like about calzaghe and hopkins is that both of these guys worked their asses off to stay at the same weight. calzaghe has really made sacrifices to stay at 168 and hopkins made a life altering decision to stay constantly in training so he could stay at his weight at 160.
now i know that joe has been saying that the weight has been an issue, but what i like the most out of all this between these two is that BOTH GUYS MADE THE DECISION TO MOVE UP IN WEIGHT, they didn't do it because they couldn't make the weight anymore, that day might be near or might have happened, but both guys maintained their weight for over a decade, making them true purists of the sport. in my eyes.
as for hopkins fighting smaller guys, with the exception of DLH, which some people picked to beat hopkins (******s or casual fans), hopkins was supposed to lose to all of them, so whats up with that? hopkins was supposed to lose to trinidad by knockout, hopkins was supposed to lose to winky, hopkins was supposed to lose to tarver ( even though tarver was bigger and ko'd roy jones ) hopkins was supposed to lose to all those guys who were younger, better skilled, and threw more punches. hopkins beat all them guys and i think the the trend will continue...........

Good point regards B-hop's scalps. But Joe Calzaghe does not know how to lose. I have no doubt HE will walk out with his 0 intact.
