Is Winning the Contender a good thing?

Sergio Mora first champion of the contender, has only fought 4 times in 30 months against limited competition. He drew in one fight, and the guy her drew with (Elvin Ayala) is getting a world title shot.

Grady Brewer- Beat Steve Forbes to be the second champ, What has he done? He hasnt fought since the contender championship.

Sakio Bika- a bit early to say but he hasnt really been mentioned in any meaningful fight, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Now look at contestants from the 1st two season, Gomez will get a shot at cotto, manfredo had his shot against Lacy and Calzaghe. 2nd season Steve Forbes will be fighting the biggest name in boxing Oscar De La Hoya.

It seems like the guys who came in top 5 benefited the most out of all of this

    Its a good thing, yes.

Its a shortcut to a bigger name.. I've got alot of respect for Gomez and Manfredo, they really made the most of their Contender name.

Sergio Mora cud have done the best but he turned down a 7 figure fight for the title against Taylor and a six figure fight against Ouma, Codrington should be ok, he's got a good promo team and hes a good fighter too, the other guy, IDK, I like Manfredo but he just can't seem to past the B level, and Gomez has slowly worked his way up and if he beat Cotto, I would love to see the smile on Floyds face.

HELL YES. They are fighters who really are nowhere near the top of the food chain getting paydays that far surpass the level of talent would usually garner. Basically it is like hitting the jackpot for sucking less than the other guys.

I guess it an be a good thing in regards to getting your name out but its obvious they are not top level competition.

I think it's good, gives a fighter good exposure. Steve Forbes probably wouldn't have gotten his shot against DLH if he had not been on the contender, Sergio Mora was supposed to fight Jermain Taylor but pulled out because he didn't like the location of the fight and is now in talks to fight Forrest, Manfredo got his shot at Calzaghe and fought Lacy, Bika was mentioned in a fight with Bute.

Well, Mora could've gotten his shot if he didn't turn down his fight with Taylor and he's in talks to fight Forrest, as I mentioned Bika was talking to camp Bute to put together a fight, don't know what happened with that. Brewer has sort of dropped off the face of the earth though.
