Essay I did for school over Juan Diaz

Hey guys can you give me feed back on this?

TOPIC: “Who speaks for or inspires your generation and what are they saying? If you think no one does, what needs to be said?”

Its an extra credit essay, the city where i live, there is a contest, 3 winners will recieve a laptop and a scholarship. I'd predict there would be around 1000 contestants.

If the average person on the streets were asked, who is Juan Diaz? They probably could not tell you. Anyone associated with boxing would tell you that he is recognized as the best lightweight fighter in the world. Juan “Baby bull” Diaz is undefeated with thirty-three wins and no losses. He has three of the four major world title belts in the one hundred and thirty five pound division. Diaz became champion at the young age of twenty. He was the youngest champion at that time. Success in boxing usually brings a fighter a lot of money. Juan Diaz is no exception. One would say that a world champion boxer has it made for the rest of their life. Although that may be true, boxing is not forever.
Injuries are very common in the sport and some are serious to where a boxer is unable to fight again. If an injury does not occur, a fighter will eventually show signs of diminished skills and they are forced to retire, or if not they risk getting seriously injured. Many times fighters fight past their prime due to a lack of another job opportunity. Most times these fighters are uneducated and do not have other skills useful to make an income enough to live.
This is where a person like Juan Diaz is a great example for all young people. He definitely is a great person for boxing to have. Diaz is currently enrolled in the University of Houston Downtown studying to eventually become a Judge. He does this by choice and on his own free time. Once Diaz completes his education to become a judge, he has a life after boxing. He does not have to fight until he is physically unable to. His education is something that cannot be taken away from him. Boxing is a sport that can be taken away. If something happens tomorrow he will be ok due to the education he is receiving. His message to young people today would be to stay in school, work hard and go to college. Today most gifted student athletes dream that they will eventually make it pro in whatever sport they are good at. The fame and money certainly makes this attractive, but only a certain amount of all these athletes will get offers to play in college and only a fraction of an amount will make it to the professional level. This is where an education comes into play. Teenagers should go out and get an education by choice. The reward of an education will pay dividends. In case of a career ending injury or if something goes wrong that prevents an athlete from making it to the pros, they will have something to fall back on. A college degree may just be a piece of paper, but that piece of paper will get a person a great job

I was thinking the same thing! But for real though, it's cool. He's a great role model for the young Hispanic youth in our area.

You might one want to add a note that his first three fights were in Mexico based on the fact that he was underaged and couldn't be licensed to fight in the USA.
