He's partially right about being a draw, but hopkins/tarver are partially right as well.

PPV is successful 9 times out of 10 because of BOTH names. Jones jr. vs Hanshaw? what? like 14 people ordered that because no one knows who the **** hanshaw is. But against Trinidad, now that's a fight people want to see. Hopkins vs Calzaghe cant/wont sell because no one knows who Calzaghe is (in the states, unfortunately), but Hopkins/Wright, Hopkins/ODH, Hopkins/Tarver, Hopkins/Trinidad did.

Put two big names on PPV and people will buy it. Put one big name against an unknown and it wont sell*. it's as simple as that.

*I'm sure there have been exceptions like Mike Tyson and ODH, but it's very rare for one name to sell a fight.

Tarver on the other hand I don't think ever was a draw.

Surely they aren't buying the fight because of Hopkins, not Joe.

They aren't buying the fight because no one knows who joe is. They bought Hopkins/Winky (and the big fights before that).

Hopkins isn't a big enough name to sell a fight by himself. No boxer is, except maybe Mike Tyson and ODH. And probably Mayweather now. That's really it.

no because im too young to remember him in his prime in the same way Ali is one of my faves and i'm sure hes one of yours too, I remember him at his best not getting battered by in his careers winter, due mainly to the fact I didn't see him fight live.
