    The Persecution of Floyd Mayweather

    Article start:

I've come to feel that Floyd right now occupies about the same place in the boxing universe that Ali did in the 60's, pre-Vietnam period (keeping in mind that the boxing universe today occupies a considerably diminished space of the cultural stratosphere at large). In this analogy, 50 Cent is Floyd's Malcolm X, which I don't think is a stretch at all. For middle-class white America, hip hop today represents pretty much what the Nation of Islam did in the 60's - black, dangerous, violent, anarchic, contemptuous at every turn of white bourgeois values and proud of that contempt. In fact, hip hop is probably more loathsome and terrifying to the white middle-class now than the Nation was back in the 60's. The Nation was a small fringe movement with little real cultural capital other than its capacity to shock whenever the media gave it a platform, which was rarely. Today, hip hop permeates the bourgeoisie and has become the veritable religion of its children.

      1) How the **** are you gonna compare Malcom to 50?
      2) How the **** are you gonna compare Mayweather to Ali?

I agree on some points of the article but those two comparisons are complete nonsense.

Only when you look at it with a closed mind or an already preconceived one , look at the doco on Sugar Ray called " Bright lights Dark shadows of a champion " and look at the similarities of all three , look at the road and direction of thier respective careers , the notoriety flamboyance etc ,, different eras in differents worlds but lots of parallels and crossovers , its not just about thier boxing but thier footprint in time .

Nah, he's just a boring overhyped fighter. YES I know he's extremely talented as a technical boxer. Your overthinking big time.

I dont agree with the article, thought it was forced for the sake of having something for the guy to write about.

Floyd has few fans because he has no personality and his fighting style is not really crowdpleasing.

see Ali had this aura to him that Mayweather will never have.
despite being very hated he was very likable.. People loved to hate and hated to love him.
Ali's trash talk was witty, clever and smart.
Mayweather sounds like a 5 year old child throwing a tantrum.
Ali was fighting for a cause and during a time when black folks were not excepted.
Mayweather isn't fighting for a cause, a legacy just for money.
Ali fought the draft, Ali fought racism, Ali was there to show America that you could not hold a black man down and he was there to show America what a black man could do.
Ali also fought anybody and everybody. He called you out, god forbid you steal some of his spotlight he was there to take it.
If Ali would have been a welter and Miguel Cotto would have been around at the time.. Ali would have been fought him already.

Don't let me get started on Malcom X and 50 cent either.. because if you believe these two were similar then you are gullible and are willing to believe anything as long as it's in the benefit of your point of view.

We can put any spin on it we like I was 15 when Ali beat liston in 64 and remember vividly the Ali years , he was hated by most ,,,, if you havent seen the Doco Im talking about go and get it , it really is one of the best ones made .

Exactly. The article is just trying to make him more important then he is. He isnt what Ali was, and he never, ever will be. For several OBVIOUS reasons.
