Lightweight Division in a nutshell, with a dangerous unknown

With the lighweight division completely dominated by Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz, it's easily discounted as a competitive and "upfergrabz" division. However, with four of it's top five (in my opinion: 1. J.Diaz; 2. D. Diaz; 3. M. Katsidis; 4. J. Casamayor; 5. N. Campbell) ranked boxers facing-off in the month of March, this could aburptly become one of the most competitive divisions to watch towards the end of 2008 and going into 2009. We may see four different Champs at each organization and a possible set-up for a unification bout where legitimate contender, and WBA Interim Champion, Jose Alfaro could very well be a dangerous player. Although Commonwealth Champ, Amir Khan, and battle-tested contender, Zahir Raheem, are in the mix, unheralded power-puncher, Jose Alfaro, out of Nicaragua, has the best chance at lightweight supremacy.

At the age of 24, Alfaro has already overcome adversity in the ring and also tasted glory after thrashing "Chop Chop" Corley in 8, and nearly KOing a tough Singwacha (who was robbed against Jose Cotto) for the WBA crown. With a successful title-defense against Paulus Moses later this spring, Alfaro will be more than ready to put his hands on either Juan Diaz, D. Diaz, or Katsidis. At 20-3 (18 KOs), Alfaro has a crushing right hand and loves to come forward and wing punches at the center of the ring (J. Diaz-Alfaro would be a spectacle). A pupil of boxing legend, Alexis Arguello, this guy can bring it. Check him out in the link below.

I agree that a Diaz-Alfaro fight may be premature because of J. Diaz' status, and Alfaro is vertually unkown...but that's typically a dangerous mixture, and there's no doubt in my mind that Alfaro is physically, mentally, and experienced enough to fight Diaz tomorrow.
