Calzaghe by decision, Pavlik always has a puncher's chance.

Calzaghe by decision in a not close fight.

Pavlik took 7 to knock out a weight drained Miranda, 7 to knock out a Taylor that lets his hands hang lower than Jibbs lets his chain hang, and didn't KO Taylor in their last match. I think people are making him out to be more of a puncher than he is, much like Kessler. Sure, they hit hard, but you have to be monstrously strong to KO elites like they are nothing.

Anyways, considering Pavlik can still make 160, and Joe struggles to make 168, I think Calzaghe is going to be too big for Pavlik's power to really do a lot to him in the fight, and I think Calzaghe's form of volume punching that throws a technical fighter off of his game would work very well against The Ghost.

Not a good fight for Pavlik.

Maybe Pavliks straightforwrd style might give him problems. ??
        That plus his size.

Pavlik doesn't have enough variation to beat Calzaghe.

There is also a reason why Frank Warren was very keen on a Pavlik fight, he is made for Joe.

Pavlik is also an accumalation puncher, he punches very hard but has that kind of clubbing power, he is not going to put Joe out with a bingo punch. The only way Joe loses is if the red mist decends ala the Byron Mitchell fight after getting hurt and Pavlik capitalises. Also I'd think Joe would be the stronger man in there, as he walks around at 14 stone. With that said going back down to 168 would be an unnecessary risk for Calzaghe.

I just see Joe being too good for Pavlik, and Pavlik not having physical advantages which I think he needs.

              Agreed.

For Calzaghe, this is one of two credible fights left for him presuming he beats Hopkins. The other being Chad Dawson, presuming he beats Glen Johnson.

As a fight fan I'd be excited at the prospect of Calzaghe vs Pavlik, but I'm not sure Bob Arum will let Pavlik take such a dangerous fight. It's all going to come down to whether Pavlik is warrior enough to say "get me a fight with Calzaghe before he retires". I know Pavlik's Dad and trainer have both been quoted as saying they'd like the Calzaghe fight, but does Kelly really want it?

I sure hope so, because even though I have Calzaghe by UD, it could be an exciting and close fight because neither guy gives an inch.
