what impressed you about Taylor/Pavlik what disappointed??

Both guys fought very good fights, at a very fast pace especially for middleweights.

I was impressed by both in the following categories

    chins- both took big shots
    jabs- again very good
    improved defensive skills

Jermaine's hand speed was very good
Jermain stayed off the ropes, OMFG about time dude! nice adjustment.
After finding out that Pavlik hurt his hands I am even more impressed that he continued with his usual onslaught, very tough guy

not much bad to say about either except Jermaine still gassing at the end of his fights and Taylor was very spotty.

Both guys need to work the body more

    Your opinions?

You pretty much summed it up.

I was impressed with their chins, Taylor's especially considering he got knocked out quite brutally the last time they fought.

Their jabbing was good and Pavlik showed his toughness to keep throwing his right hand after he had hurt it. I was also impressed with Pavlik's stamina, he proved that he could throw 70 punches a round and not gas in the championship rounds.

Taylor showed good ring presense, kept himself off the ropes and out of the corners and showed improved defense, he kept his hands higher this time, Pavlik's defense was better as well.

They should have worked each other's body more, especially Pavlik.

Taylor's stamina still bothers me and will work against him in the future, his workrate was too low in this fight.

    I think that's about it.

I walked away from the fight thinking:

Kelly Pavlik is a solid boxer. He's tough, can take a decent shot, and if I had to sum him up I'd say: pressure. Kelly Pavlik is a walk-forward pressure fighter; which could also be his downfall. He's got a decent offensive repotiore but he's not going to switch things up drastically. He's going to walk you down and land his shots. Pavlik is going to throw.

Oh, I loves his jab technique. I don't pretend to be the master of boxing and all its craft so- maybe this is old news- but the way he jabs with an open fist, just to let his glove spread out and blind his opponent from the punch that follows; little tricks like show he has skill and not just ****.

That said, I also walked away giving Taylor a ton of credit. It's not easy to step right back into the ring with the guy who gave you the first loss of your career, a man that took your championship and knocked you out, and actually fight better. Jermain was accurate- he paced himself- and like you said he didn't let himself get backed into the ropes like in the first fight. That's improvement. He showed he's tough as nails mentally when he needs to be. It went a long way to making me forget about all the blown up junior middleweights he fought- Wright, Ouma, Spinks- and the mixed showings he had.

I don't think Taylor is done. If he can find the passion to fight like he did against Pavlik against everyone he's going to find some renewed success out there. I wouldn't throw him right in with a Kessler, but he's got something left and- despite myself- I'll probably root for him down the road.

I gave both men credit. Pavlik showed a few flaws to me; like a slight inability to adjust to certain things Jermain did- and he was getting popped with Taylor's jab the first few rounds- but I can't knock him for winning. Taylor also came out strong, fought a good fight, and gained a little pride back. Funny thing is, Taylor gained more in my book with this loss than even Pavlik did with his win.

I was dissapointed that Pavlik didnt mix it up. Taylors whole game plan was to block the big right hand so why not throw him off and go to the body all night. I cant believe after round 2 or 3 his corner didnt tell him to change to the body..

i was impressed that pavlik had enough faith in what he was doing to keep up the plan even though he lost the first half of the fight. a less disciplined fighter may have felt the need to start firing away carelessly and giving taylor a lot more holes to exploit.

i was disappointed in taylors stamina, if he cant knock guys out hes not gonna beat the best 168'ers losing the last 3 rounds of every fight, he threw 40 punches a round the whole night and was still exhausted when he needed it the most.
