First off i am a huge Hagler fan and do not like Hopkins very much but i was thinking about when people discredit Hopkins victories over Tito and Oscar. Hagler beat Hearns, Duran and many thought he should have beaten Leonard. Yet Duran was a Lightweight and Leonard a Welter i can understand Hearns as he never really was a natural Welter. I just thought do you guys think of Haglers victories over Duran and Hearns and IMO deserved victory over SRL as the same way you discredit the wins over DLH and Tito for Hopkins

That's true. I've heard Hagler haters open up the same can of worms as the hopkins haters do. You can pick any fighter's career apart and make it look like ****. On boxrec I saw a guy do this with Ali's record who many consider the greatest HW of all time. The sad part was he made it almost believable.First off i am a huge Hagler fan and do not like Hopkins very much but i was thinking about when people discredit Hopkins victories over Tito and Oscar. Yeah I've said that numerous times, it's not fair to discredit Hopkins without mentioning hagler and others.
Also, it's funny to me, because what should have hopkins have done? Not take on the biggest fights of his career (trinidad/odh) because some dork on the internet is going to criticize him years later?!? lol, if trinidad/odh wanted to fight hopkins, criticize them, not b-hop. And remember, he won, by KO's, he didn't lose. And yes, wow, he lost to Taylor at age 40 after 20 successful title defenses, woopdy doo. Did hopkins ever get hurt? Was he ever in trouble? Nope, two close, controversial decisions. You can blame hopkins for not being as active as he should have been, but certainly not for "getting his ass kicked." He then beat Tarver, Wright and is going to fight Calzaghe, all over the age of 40. That alone demands respect.Last edited by ИATAS; 02-14-2008, 02:04 PM.Comment

hagler wins over duran and hearns .
real og Im a huge hagler fan my self and I dont know if you remember hagler took alot of heat from boxing citics over the fact that he wasnt a very good boxer so hagler had something to prove to them so when he fought duran he wanted to show the world that he could box and as we all saw that all most cost him the middleweight title againts the slick boxing duran duran even shut one of his eyes and if not for hagler really putting presure on duran in the last round he loses and as for hearns that was a different fight all together hearns came right at hagler and we all know that that was the wrong thing to do againts hagler even though that fight was one of the most brutal ever and against srl we him again try to out box leonard and I think he did lose to leonard I think if the fight would have taken place five years erlier like it should have hagler wins I just wished that hagler would have kept on fighting after that loss.Comment

to say he would get dominate is crazy. other than sweet pea those two are my all-time favorites. i think it would be a close fight cause b-hop is always able to adjust, counterpunch, defend and use height advantage. b-hop has a style where he could fight in different erasMay i add Hagler was prime from 79-84.
That Hagler would UD Hopkins i think he would dominate, but those who say Hopkins would get stopped is crazy Hopkins has one of the best chins in the modern era.Comment

I think he would Hagler would set a pace Hopkins would not like Hagler remember the Hearns/Leonard Hagler was way past his best.
Hagler 117-110 imo.Comment

Plus, what people tend to forget a lot of the time was that Hopkins had virtually no support going into the Trinidad fight. Tito was also seen as becoming comfortable as a middleweight, beating guys like Joppy easy, and leaving critics to give no chance to B-Hop in that fight.
Hagler also never ducked ANYBODY his entire career, and much like Hopkins, had to earn every bit of respect the hard way: Winning the MW title and having bottles thrown at him, having to legally change his name to Marvelous, all these things were done in order for the public to see how much it meant to him to be considered a truly great fighter. Same with Bernard.
Hopkins doesnt get credit for beating DLH and Tito cause they were "overstuffed welterweights", but they were still very great fighters who had moved up gradually and were beginning to settle into bigger frames as they got older. Like they say, you can make ANYBODY's career seem inadequate, but at the end of the day, a legend will most likely remain a legend in most people's eyes.Comment
