Because he punches with the inside of his gloves. As you mentioned, sometimes with the glove open.
First of all, this is not legal in the sport of boxing, as there is no padding on the inside of the glove.
Secondly, it's the same punch bitches hits you with, commonly called bitchslap. Hence Calzaghe= slapper.

Well slapping is hitting with an open glove, which actually can be harmful to the other fighter cause you can cut them with your palm and wrist, its not bitchy **** but rather it is illegal. And you can hurt your own hand like that.

        He does slap a little..

Because of Calzaghe's weird style of punching. It obviously works for him.

            Who does?

Joe Calzaghe suffered a severe injury to his wrists when he was younger and it was thought he could never box again but he just evolved a new way of punching which is why he sometimes "slaps". Just think what he could be like.

Funny, many boxing greats consider him one of the best, you know more than Sugar Ray Leonard!?!

Yeah, when Leonard came over for the Manfredo fight he said he would of done very well in the era of Hearns, Himself and Hagler.

He has KOed only 2 and TKOed 30 , it makes a difference when discussing power , Joe is a volume puncher not a big KO puncher , maybe because slaps quite a bit .

What matters is he has gotten 32 of his opponents out of there, a few could have been questionable stoppages but not all of them were.

I don't get it, why does he get labeled a slapper when fighters throughout history have done it. Ali, Leonard, Hearns off the top of my head all delivered open handed punches.

He is the ugliest puncher i've ever seen in the whole sport. It's not how a Boxer punches.
The theory of his power went from accurate, to extremely overrated because of Brits. You know, there are morons out there that think he hits harder than Pavlik and Kessler based on his record.

Truth is, he has no power and he slaps, but he is a volume puncher and the opponents he stopped couldn't take it for too long.
