    The mispromotion of Chris Arreola

I need to start this by asking you to use your brain. I know people will jump in here with responses like "he sux dude, a bum", but please refrain. I am well aware that Chris Arreola is certainly lacking in terms of talent and natural ability. I am well aware of the fact that him ever holding a belt is a long shot at best. I don't think highly of him as a fighter and I am not a particularly big fan. This is not what this thread is about.

I, however, remain perplexed at his promotion regardless. First and foremost he has an impressive when displayed KO record, but that is only one peg. The second is that he is a heavyweight, the easiest division to sell in boxing. He is also Mexican-American. Mexicans draw. This is no secret. He is American too, meaning he can be billed as the American answer. He isn't, but I am talking about the usual marketing that goes on here. He also is far from a boring fighter. He is relentless on offense with decent skills and good enough pop, while his defensive liabilities will mean he will get hit plenty and make for exciting fights against higher competition. So here we are with a "powerpunching" (again, on paper) heavyweight that can appeal to Mexicans, Americans, and anyone who likes offensive firepower type fights.

Yet, what is he doing? When is he on TV? Why isn't he being matched as publicly as possible against opponents with name recognition that he is sure to beat. He would start to gather a huge following in no time before being cashed in and out against say Wlad. I don't understand the lack of promotion he receives. Who is he with?

To be fair.. He is still listed as a Prospect.. he is not an outstanding boxer.. But he does everything good.. and has some potential... I think he is being handled correctly.. there is no need to rush him... he is not ready for the top 10.. give it a bit of time.. I am sure he will get his shot..

When i first read Arreolla on the Ring mag, the editors were not impressed by him. Then suddenly it was a turn around. Forgot which issue(the last 4-5 months), The mag was saying good things about him.

I never seen him fight so i can't say an opinion about him but i would like to see him fight Rahman, Minto, or David Tua.

Arreola was scheduled to be on a HBO BAD TV match, but he postponed that fight because of the violent death of a close friend. If HBO showed interest before, he is likely to get another shot if he stays unbeaten. You can be sure they realize that an exciting Mexican-American heavyweight is a valuable commodity.

He isn't talking about him as a fighter. He is talking about him as a boxing commodity. Why isn't Chris getting more exposure because he has some strong points that could make him a popular fighter, but that just isn't happening.

Yeah I've kind of wondered why he hasn't been on TV as much. I know he's been on ESPN before and was going to be on Showtime one time before the incident with his friend. You think maybe he would have been on ESPN at least a few more times.

He is with Goosen-Tutor and has had some TV dates. He is an aesthicly pleasing fighter to watch as far as action like you said. He is getting morerecognition than most young heavies and has beaten better opposition as well. We'll see more of him soon and a fight against Minto would be a great litmus test.

Well I am over here in the UK and I have seen him fight more in the last 2 years .. than any other US HW prospect.. SO they are doing something RIGHT.. But what I said related to what the Thread maker was talking about anyway..Arreola hasn't done Anything spectacular to promote.. He is a PROSPECT who does not have the neccesary skills to promote him as a Top fighter.. YET... But, if he keeps improving he will be a Commodity .. for the reasons listed..

Eddie Chambers (Guinn, Brock) Alexander Dimitrenko (Hoffmann) and Alexander Povetkin (Donald, Byrd) have already fought some former contenders and/or fringe contenders. I'd like to see Arreola do the same.

Some good potential opponents would perhaps include: Rahman, Briggs, Brewster, Brock, Austin, Golota, Meehan, Williamson, Williams, Sprott and Barrett.

On the one hand, as the first poster points out, he's a demographic goldmine.

On the other hand, if he fights anybody in the top 10 he's likely to be finished - thus killing goose with golden egg.

Perhaps its best to keep feeding him opposition he can handle so that when the real payday comes it's reasonably big?

I certainly don't know, but that's my interpretation.
