This is great. Thanks for sharing. Have any more funny ring stories like this one?

I was fighting a guy one time later in my career and he got me on the ropes at one point and threw a huge flurry of punches at me, maybe twenty punches, and I blocked them with my gloves and arms. I was real good at blocking shots like that and it was often a thing where an opponent wouldn't even realize he wasn't landing all those shots on me until it was too late. When he was done throwing I got real close to him and whispered in his ear "You're gonna' be tired NOW" and right away he said "I know!"

Like just this past Monday for example... I was in the gym in Florida and met Andy Lee for the first time. He knew about me from seeing me online (interviews, etc, I assume) training fighters and he also made special mention of my quote that goes out with all my emails (about the wait in the dressing room). The talk got around to me sparring and he knew from Aaron Pryor Jr. that we had sparred a few days earlier and, very innocently, he said to me, "That's nice that you are still able to get in there sometimes with the guys." I know its hard to read "tone" on here but he said it like I was this old, old man who the young guys allowed to get in and hobble around the ring with them for the fun of it LOL. I mean, I am not planning to fight or anything but when I still spar, no matter who it is against, I am still competitive. If I wasn't I wouldn't do it. The thing was I had just told Andy about how back in 1988 I fought for one of his country's biggest coaches (Gerry Storey) in an international meet between Ireland and Canada. So to 23 year old Andy -he was THREE at the time of that fight- I must seem like I am 100 years old LOL

yeah man, i am 33 and work with alot of guys in their early 20's! we r all on a swat unit together, we train all the time, and since i have been doing it for 12 years i train them, and break them in. they challenge me alot, and try to see what i have, and what i am about so i show them! i get alot of wow, i did not think u were that fast or strong, or your tough for an older dude! funny as hell, but i actually think i am better at 33 than 23! i still have no problem whopping up on these young fellas, and i more than hold my own! anyway, what were you thoughts on lee? alot of hype with him, and i am wondering your opinion?

I like Andy Lee so far. I really wanted to get the chance to spar with him this week but we eneded up leaving a few days earlier and there was no opportunity. He's got good height for a 160 pounder, he whips that right hook (like he did so well against Carl Daniels) and he has a good amateur pedigree. I saw him spar once in the gym and he looked good. I think he's a definite legit prospect at 160.

cool, i hope they don't put him in with the top guys to fast! the kid is only 23 and they are talking pavlik/abraham! they do not need to rush him imho! it is far to early to just rush him into a big fight like that!
