Editor: – You have a big fight coming up against current WBC light heavyweight champion, Chad Dawson, talk about the fight.
GJ – I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. I have to give Chad Dawson and his crew big respect for stepping up and taking this fight. I am looking forward to showing the boxing world a great performance. I am also looking forward to the match up between Antonio Tarver, and Clinton Woods.
Editor: – You're a guy with a lot more experience than Chad Dawson, and you have beaten legends. This is a younger fighter, with talent, and power. Do you see your experience and ring savvy as an advantage over his youth, and power?
GJ – Well I don't know what to say about his guy. He is undefeated, and he beat Adamek for his title, and a few other guys, but no one with a lot of meaning within the division. He has a lot of speed, and he has skills, and talent, I can't take that away from him. With that said, I don't see anything from him that spectacular, or anything that he can really hang a hat on in the boxing world. I am going to prove that I am still the man in the light heavyweight division to look out for, I am going to get in there and prove that. I still don't get the credit that I deserve. So I will show the people in the ring on April 12th.
Editor: – Would you say that it would be a mistake for the Dawson camp to think that you're too old, and that father time may catch up to you in this fight?
GJ – That would be a big mistake if they think that, but I hope that's what he thinks. It always seems to end up in my benefit when people don't realize what kind of challenge they are in for when they get in there with me. The people that have been in there with me know all to well what happens when you get in there with me.
Editor: – Antonio Tarver will face Clinton Woods, what are your thoughts on that match up?
GJ – Well I know both guys fairly well. I have fought Tarver twice, and Woods three times. In those five fights I won 4 of them clearly. The other one with Tarver could have went either way. I see this fight as going either way. The Tarver that fought me may be able to beat Clinton Woods. The Tarver that I saw in his last few fights, Woods will beat him.
Editor: – A win over Dawson, and I am guessing you want to try to unify and go after the winner of Woods vs Tarver?
GJ – I am looking for unification, and it don't matter which two guys wins that fight. Unification is the only thing on my mind this year. After that, I look forward to fighting the winner of Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins.
Editor: – One guy that will have something to say about that is Roy Jones Jr. Roy looked pretty good against Tito Trinidad. What are your thoughts on Roy's performance, and where he fits into the fold concerning Calzaghe vs Hopkins.
GJ – Well Roy fits in there somewhere, he looked fairly good against Trinidad. He certainly has a leg to stand on to fight the winner of Bernard Hopkins vs Joe Calzaghe. If he gets the winner of that fight before I do, than I want the winner between Roy and the winner of Hopkins vs Calzaghe. I am just looking for the best marquee fight out there for me to make money. I have fought the tough fights throughout my career, and I have yet to cash in. I believe that this year I should get the opportunity to cash in against a marquee game. I have worked hard throughout my career, so I believe that I deserve it.
Editor: – What about an eliminator fight between you and Roy Jones Jr to see who gets to fight the winner of Bernard Hopkins vs Calzaghe?
GJ – That would be a great opportunity for me. That would be the ideal situation, but we all know that the ideal situation doesn't usually work out. I will take it one fight at a time and let the chips fall where they may.
Editor: – Yes, we definitely don't want to disrespect the world champion in Chad Dawson, because you have to get past him before anything else can happen. How do you get past him?
GJ – Well without giving up my game plan away, just know that I know how to beat Chad Dawson. I am training that way, and preparing myself for what Chad Dawson has to offer. I preparing myself to make this a short night so I can see the Tarver vs Woods fight.
Editor: – So you think it's going to be a short night against Chad Dawson?
GJ – Well I am certainly preparing myself that way.
Editor: – I don't think that will be an easy task.
GJ – Well I don't think it will be an easy task to do that, but I believe a smart task will make it a short night.
Editor: – Do you have any closing thoughts for your fans?
GJ – I want to thank my fans for their patience, and we are finally getting involved in the major fights. I want to tell my fans that I am going to make good of this opportunity
