Is there a meaningless belt on the line? Someone making it an elimination bout? BoxRec has it listed at 12 rounds. What gives? Or is there just no set in stone rule that only title fights can be 12 rounds?
Pavlik/Taylor: What is making it 12 rounds?

what do you mean?
any fight can be 12 rounds it agreed on before the fight. There is a set limit for championship fight though.
no meaningless belt or elimination fight though because its a catch weight.Comment

You're right because its a big fight some generic belt will be on the line so the fight can go 12 rounds.
Both fighters look ready should be a very good fight would have liked to see the fight held at middleweight again. This fight at a higher weight gives Taylor an edge since he's the one having trouble making weight. But it can benefit both fighters and neither has fought at this higher weight either.Comment

there is no meaningless title on the line, its at 166 its a catchweight no title at all. It's just a simply a 12 round fight simple as.
The ring belt isnt a real belt but they go 12 rounds i think it doesnt matter whether its a title fight, a big fight is a big fight so they chose 12 rounds.Comment

I've always wondered myself if there had to be some sort of title on the line or something like that for it to go 12.
Also, just because it is at a catchweight doesn't mean a title isn't on the line.
Hopkins vs. Wright... title on the line.
Mayorga vs. Vargas... title on the line.
As long as it is under the limit, the title can be on the line.
That is why Henry Armstrong was able to defend belts from two separate weight classes in the same fight, but it had to be lower than the weight limit for the lowest weight which he held a belt at.Comment
