Something Manny Stewart said about Taylor

On Countdown to Taylor vs Pavlik II.

He said Taylor is an “instinctive fighter”, meaning that he doesn’t learn inside the ring. He said whatever he would tell Jermaine between rounds would be completely forgotten within seconds of the next round and he falls back entirely on instincts.

Do you think this is true or do you think Manny and Taylor simply didn’t fit well with each other? Do you feel this was kind of a shot taken at Taylor and an excuse as to why they couldn’t beat Pavlik?

Also, do you think Taylor fits better with his original trainer, Ozell Nelson, the guy that trained him since he was 13 years old?

I think there is some truth to this, because the knock on taylor has always been the same... he keeps his left hand too low and get's too excited. Pavlik was 2 or 3 punches away from being exposed in the 2nd round of their first fight, but Taylor got way too excited, and instead of throwing short, sharp uppercuts he started throwing haymakers and tired himself out. Then he made the mistake of dropping his left hand... against pavlik? not a good idea.

I dont think Taylor fit that well with steward, because steward needs his fighters to buy into his philosophy completely and for them to live, eat, breathe, and sleep boxing, which taylor does not do. this is not a knock on steward or on Taylor, just they way it seemed to me.

i hope taylor wins the rematch, because i would watch these two fight every 6 months, and that would line up a rubber match.

Manny might be right, but I will need to see the old fights again. IMO, Taylor lost focus and has become less of a better fighter. Going back to the drawing board might help him, but I see Pavlik winning again.

i think there's some truth to that.. taylor does seem to get overanxious, especially with the first pavlik fight.. taylor needs to stay 100% calm and focused, which, to me, he doesn't seem to do all the time.. i don't think him and manny fit too well though.. we'll see if he can turn things around with ozell, because he definitely needs to improve on some things.. taylor has the physical skills to beat pavik, let's just see if he can put it all together
