***Pavlik Vs. Taylor II (My Thoughts on the upcoming fight)***

I seen some mistakes BOTH fighters made in their first fight and i think those mistakes (most of them) are pretty obvious.

    Keys to Victory for Pavlik:

    A) Dont let taylor fight in the middle of the ring; trap him against the ropes or in the corner. Look back at Pavlik's most recent fights. where did he finish off opponents and do the most damage? When the opponents were against the ropes. he knocked out Zertuche, Miranda, and most recently Taylor AGAINST THE ROPES or in the corner. Its obvious. Even without considering the knockouts fighting in close quarters seems to favor pavlik despite arm length and height.

    B) Defense. Pavlik's biggest mistake in the first fight was he got caught with some punches that shouldnt have landed as flush as they did. Some of them nearly got him knocked out in the 2nd round of the fight. he has to (and this time around probably will) respect taylor's power. pavlik is the bigger fighter naturally but taylor's power is nothing to laugh at. this isnt merely just "keep your hands up" its also knowing when to hold on when necessary and when to take a step back.

    C) go to the body. taylor is naturally faster to pavlik should work the body in the early going of the fight to slow taylor down and to get taylor to drop his hands and THEN go head hunting. if pavlik does that expect another pavlik victory by knockout.

For taylor; he's keys to victory are:

    A) To use his foot speed to avoid getting caught up in a slugging contest. he did well but he did tire out easily after. Taylor is boxer. if taylor makes it a boxing match and not a slugfest then taylor could change the result of the fight from last time. he's quicker than pavlik and should use it. i said before the last fight it may be a mistake to slug with pavlik and i was right...i didnt think taylor would be able to **** with pavlik as well as he did but that doesnt mean he should try it again.

    B) Stay off the ropes/Use the jab. Thats something else i said before the first fight. pavlik dominates if he gets you on the ropes or in close punching distance. taylor needs to use his speed and BOX. He shouldnt do a thing without using the jab. he HAS TO build off the jab. he should double up on the jab; get inside for a quick combination and get back out of pavlik's reach.

    C) Keep you hands up/counterpunch. taylor got caught with some really flush shots that shouldnt have landed. both fighters made this error but taylor made this error by a far wider margin. pavlik landed big punch after big punch and taylor just didnt make the adjustment on defense. he should be counterpunching pavlik's long armed punches. He didnt do it too often but pavlik definately gave jermain many chances to land good counter punches.

Despite what anyone here thinks i say this fight's odds are wrong and i believe taylor has much more than just a "legit chance" of winning. he has a just as much of a chance to win this fight as pavlik does and infact taylor is my pick for this fight (provided he does what i predict will lead him to victory).

Many people on this forum on seem to really think about the end of the fight where smoger stops the fight with taylor getting battered half senseless.

Many forget that up until the 4th round or so (maybe 5th) for the most part taylor was in control and had pavlik whobbling for a good round and a half.

had taylor not gotten so excited for a knockout and punched himself out he would have had something left going into the later rounds. taylor made an amatuer mistake by punching himself out. he shouldnt have attempted to "close the show" in the second, third, and part of the fourth round. he should have fought like the professional fighter he is instead of getting wild with punches.

pavlik isn't a walk in the park. dont think im saying that. pavlik has proved to be a very good fighter thus far in the sport and im not discrediting his victory at all. he fought like a true champ and came off the canvas to knockout taylor. a VERY good performance and a truely GREAT fight overall from both fighters.

what are your thoughts on the fight?

im a firm believe that if you want to BE the champ you MUST clearly BEAT the champ.

and wouldnt have a problem with it scored that way.

however this is a non-title rematch since its at a catch weight of 166.

or is it back again at 160?

if its still at 166 then pavlik has a bigger advantage than at 160.

its at super middle so no title on the line

i disagree with you about clearly beating the champ to win the belt. In my opinion a fight should be judged round by round, and whoever takes the most rounds wins the fight. Simple as that. We'd have far less controversies and robberies in this sport if that was the case

no i agree on round by round but what i mean by clearly beat the champ is that a close round that could go either way (in a title fight) should go to the title holder...basically im saying a close round should go to the champ (ie. benefit of the doubt).

its @ 166, which i agree is advantage to pavlik

as for the keys to victory for taylor, saying he should stay off the ropes is true, but he has proven time and time again that he is just gonna languish on them whether he should or not. i believe steward talked about it saying that for some reason jermaine just feels naturally compelled to settle against the ropes or in the corner when things arent going his way. against pavlik that will get you killed and i dont think its a tendency that taylor can simply turn "off" this time around

Taylor needs to be more economic with his energy, and really relax. Last time he was spending so much energy in the first 2 that it killed him in the later rounds.

If he can do that, he''ll be AIT.

Taylor has the speed to win this fight but in order for him to do it Pavlik will have to make mistakes. I'm picking Pavlik in the rematch because after watching the first fight for the forth time it is apparent to me that other than Pavlik getting macho in the 2nd round and trying to talk to Taylor after getting hit with a good shot , Pavlik won every round !!! Talyors head was constantly getting jarred back by jabs. Taylor like Miranda before him got wore down. If Taylor wins the re-match it will be early in the fight, the longer it goes the more Pavlik will dominate. Pavlik's biggest fight will be against the HBO judges who will do all they can to give Taylor the win, how Taylor was ahead on the scorecards after the first fight was over isn't even contraversal. its clear once again the fight was fixed for Taylor to lose another fight in the ring yet win it on the scorecards with Pavlik losing like Winky Wright and Spinks. To bad for Taylor the this time Pavlik was a real middleweight and not a welterweight or Jr Middleweight. For Pavlik to win he will have to stop Taylor

I think after the last fight taylor will be a bit weary of leaning on the ropes.

                  Rightfully so.

Pavlik always seems to get the best of his opponents when they get on the ropes.

Taylor needs to be more economic with his energy, and really relax. Last time he was spending so much energy in the first 2 that it killed him in the later rounds.
he does need to conserve that energy or develop better conditioning/endurance.

In the first fight i think what killed him was when he knocked pavlik down for that whole round and the next two rounds he was gunning for a knockout that never came.

right after the knockdown he swung wildly which isnt something he usually does. I think pavlik talking trash before the fight got him all excited when he put pavlik down and he really wanted to close the show and thats fine...but he made the amatuer mistake of not picking his shots. he just swung and swung and swung until he got tired.

hopefully he wont do that this time around.

I respect JT's HEART and I don't want to see him get KO'd again but IMO, that is exactly what will happen.

He should have never taken the re-match and certainly not at a heavier weight. But that is the warrior in him and that's why we follow boxing.
Pavlik is too big, too strong, too focused. I think his chin is granite and he KO's JT in the middle rounds again.

Pavlik will likely go down as one of the greatest mw and smw of all time. I think you are watching a fighter make history. This is coming from a person who thought Pavlik was overrated until he fought Miranda.

                    PAVLIK IS A MONSTER....
