I'm pretty unimpressed with Andre Berto thus far

Okay... the guy has some damn good offensive skills.

People say he has power, but it takes quite a while for his power to get guys out of there... that's not a big deal.

    UNTIL

The lack of killer power is coupled with his absolutely terrible defense.

Really, what is going to happen if he gets a shot at Cintron? He's going to get hurt, because Cintron is going to land flush.

What is going to happen when he fights Mayweather? He is going to get outpointed, because he can't stop Floyd's accuracy with his sub-par defense, and Floyd's amazing defense will be able to blunt Berto's offensive arsenal for the most part.

What happens when he fights Miguel Cotto? Cott's accuracy is going to be tagging Berto all night. A body shot could do him in, or his accurate leads coupled with his good counterpunching ability would give him a points win if Berto weathers the storm.

Quintana can likely counter Berto silly just like he did to Williams last night, and get the points win.

If Berto's defense doesn't improve, I don't think his career is going to be all that successful.

I am with you on this one, D. The best prospect in the world should be getting mediocre fighters out of there in impressive fashion. Not getting dropped by Cosme Rivera and struggeling with David Estrada.

    And Casamayor is shot.

i take berto for what he is, not everyone can be the perfect fighter, im less worried about being impressed with someone, and more worried if hell capitolize on his strengths to makeup for his weaknesses

I addressed that in my opening post.

I don't think his strengths can make up for his tremendously bad defense. He doesn't have the KO power to get a huge puncher out of there before he gets caught... am I right?

His defense being bad is overrated. It's really not that bad. He can avoid punches with his upper body movement and cover up well. It's just that he doesn't do it everytime. He gives a little to be able to strike right back at his opponents with a potent offensive attack.

Too many people think that power is to be a one shot thing and it's not. His power and sheer physicality wears his opponents down. At times it's a detriment to have power because you become so enamored with it that you'll wait on it looking for the perfect shot. All while you could be losing rounds. Berto's style is to fight and score points at the same time wear his opponent down and maybe score a KO. It's the perfect way to fight.

I uderstand that you think he'll get knocked out because of his defense. But realisticly he's no fool he knows what he's doing. If he were in with a greater puncher he would definitely make a stronger effort to be more careful in there.

The guy is a good, young fighter who is still learning the sport. He has many flaws such as leaving himself wide open for counter shots and his feet are to o wide. If and when he learns how to correct that, he will be even more dangerous. He's got time to change this.

Me, I think he has many vulnerabilities. I expect he'll be exposed here shortly.
