You really DON'T know boxing very well if you sincerely believe that Williams is a talented fighter. He enjoys a distinct physical advantage over virtually of his opponents, but with regard to his boxing ability, he is a complete amateur. Look at the way he throws out his elbow when he jabs, look at the way he pokes his cross out there like a feeble jab, look at his feet when his opponent cuts in the opposite direction, watch the way he has no clue how to slip a single punch. He beat Margarito because of an exceptional work rate, but I believe he looked pretty amateurish during most of that fight as well. Too many people went around talking this guy up like he was the second coming of Hearns. Problem is, Hearns had real boxing ability and he knew how to throw a damn punch.

One of the things I recall being said about Williams was that even though he has such long arms, he was surprisingly good on the inside. I think this was a commentary on either his last or the one previous, fight. And he was showing good on the inside. But he showed none of this last night. However, Quintana, by making angles, and rushing in, often seemingly with his head down or eyes closed, looked as if he was always taking Williams by surprise. And those wild swings, both left and right hand found the mark often enough to make a difference. At another time, he could easily have been missing them all. Congratualtions to him. I don't thionk he'll be Champ for very long, if he fights any of the top guys.Comment
