About Williams throwing 100 punches a round..

It's easier to do that when your opponent is making you look good, I think that's the case in the Margarito fight. The key against Williams' activity is to use your footwork as much as possible and keep moving like Quintana did tonight. Being a stationary target while staying on the outside is when Paul Williams looks good. The punisher has trouble against a guy that moves well. He has a lot of other stuff he needs to work on, but this was in regards to the whole 100 punches a round activity. His stamina seemed fine like always, so I believe this was the case.

I agree. Quintana kept moving thus not letting Williams set his feet to let his punches go like he likes to do.

He was fishfood for the counter puncher. My goodness Floyd would have put it on him tonight.

Exactly, Floyd is a lot faster coming in, and overall with his footwork. I really could see Floyd snapping in there with straight punches all night long while moving around. Williams simply can't adapt and is too sloppy. I tell ya this fight really cleared up a lot of things for me.

Quintana did have that good movement tonight. Where Paul couldn't get off as many punches and he smothered Paul as well inside. I think the combination of the movement and his southpaw style really confused Williams. For 12 rounds he looked confused and frustrated while Quintana kept landing left hands and then moving out of punching range.

Would have been good if you said that BEFORE the Quintana fight.

Although I saw his flaws before this fight, I couldn't have made such conclusions without seeing the Quintana fight first.

Exactly. I always say this. Whenever a guy wins fights purely based on throwing 100 punches per round you can't really judge how good he is. With maybe a few exceptions, you really can only throw 100 punches per round if your opponent lets you do it.

That means either a) your opponent can't land any good punches himself b) your opponent isn't in condition to hang with you c) doesn't know how to get around your jab d) really isn't there to win

There are going to be fights where none of that stuff holds true. So, the high volume puncher needs to find a way to win without relying solely upon volume punching. Until they win a big fight or two without relying solely on volume punching you really can't tell how good they actually are.
