    ABC: Stop Morrison bout!

    ABC: Stop Morrison bout!

    Saturday, February 9 2008

Tim Lueckenhoff, President of the Association of Boxing Commissions, has sent the following message to the Provincial Boxing Commission for Guanajuato, Mexico, regarding tonight's scheduled Tommy Morrison vs. Matt Weishaar pay-per-view clash:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dear Commissioners:
Within the past 24 hours, it has come to the attention of the Association of Boxing Commissions that U.S. boxer Tommy Morrison is scheduled to participate in a four round heavyweight professional boxing match against Matt Weishaar (from Atchison, Kansas) in Guanajuato, Mexico as part of the "undercard" for a "pay-per-view" boxing show, promoted by Top Rank and referred to as "Latin Fury," featuring a bout between Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and Jose Celaya for the vacant WBC "Continental Americas" light middleweight title. While cognizant of its absence of jurisdiction outside the borders of the United States and its territories, in light of the licensing history of Tommy Morrison, the Association of Boxing Commissions strongly recommends that Mr. Morrison not be allowed to participate in any professional boxing matches until, and unless, he satisfies certain medical testing, as otherwise would be required prior to Mr. Morrison participating in a professional boxing match in the United States. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

    Very truly yours,
    Tim Lueckenhoff
    President, Association of Boxing Commissions

Its funny how Morrison and Morrison fans say he was screwed over in the testing yet he continues to fight in places that have the least strict testing such as indian reservations, Japan, West ******a, and now Mexico. If the guy was clean just go to Vegas and get everything cleared up.

I say let him fight. If guys want to take the risk if there is one and get a payday to fight Tommy Morrison then let em. Even though Tommy is testing negative he is still not being granted a license and probably never will. Look at Joe Mesi who had a brain bleed and is fine now. He still can't get licensed. It is his own life and his risk to take. Tommy could be risking others but you know what? People are still getting in the ring to fight him...

Fighters need to be protected by boxing commissions b/c the fighters themselves have alot of pride and don't always make rational decisions...

Here's the thing with Morrison. He could theoretically pass a HIV test and still have the virus. Magic Johnson now tests negative when he takes one, and has for quite some time now. The explanation on that one is with his medications, and other health practices his viral count is so low it comes up negative in tests. He still would be considered to have HIV though right? Even if Tommy did pass the test, which I don't think he can or he wouldn't be going to places that don't test, he could still have HIV.

i dont really take offense at morrison fighting

to be frank, the guy he is fighting will never get paid more than he does tonight, and he will never be on a PPV ever again unless he has a footlong **** and ends up on your motel TV

i would fight tommy morrison tonight for 50grand, probably less, i dont need a cornerman or a cutman, im gonna go out there and dance around and hope he keels over from exhaustion. i could get my first pro win over an ex-heavyweight champ in the process
