BJ Flores Wins Sloppy Over Darnell Wilson

By Cliff Rold - An anticipated ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Cruiserweight main event devolved into a sometimes tedious, always sloppy affair as 29-year old 2004 U.S. Olympian BJ Flores (22-0-1, 13 KO) picked up the biggest win of his career over 33-year old veteran ****er Darnell Wilson (22-6-3, 19 KO). What was BJ thinking? When he threw combos they bounced off of Wilson's head, but that was like three times the entire night. I had it 7-5 for Flores as well, but not a crowd-pleasing win, nor even a good win in the eyes of hardcore fans. That bicycle routine is the first I've seen from BJ and that **** needs to stop. He made Wilson miss so many times and didn't come back with anything. I hope BJ learns a ton from this and stays in and fights when he makes his man miss. As for Wilson, a couple of wins against decent journeymen will get him a chance against a titlist. This loss shows how vulnerable he is, but he still carries the fans, and with some wins, thats a perfect combination for a titlist to jump at for a defense.

whats amazing is he was being groomed as a heavyweight yet was intimidated by a guy who started as a light heavy.

i dont think flores is on the level of fields or banks as far as young US cruisers

easily on the level of Fields and banks. Banks' best win was against a heartless Elieso Castillo, and Fields' against a VERY shot Kelvin Davis. BJ's win over a very dangerous Wilson (while not impressive) absolutely puts him up there. Now his heart will determine if he can climb up alongside them as they ascend the cruiserweight ranks, or if he wilters under heat from guys like Cunningham and Arslan.

Miranda is a much higher level fighter than Wilson. Flores fought strictly defensively. I would have been satisfied with a draw.

The highest price I could get was +180. I would have bit at +200. Congratulations on your score.

How could anybody score the fight 118 to 110 for Flores is beyond me. Yeah he looked good at slipping and weaving but he didn't land more, he didn't throw more , he didn't hurt the other guy at all. BJ looked only busier cause he was bouncing on his toes. First time I see both guys, wasn't impressed by either one but I really wanted Wilson to ko that toe bouncing *****.

Castillo beat Arce, Morel and Mayweather all at one tournament?
