Ajose Olusegun the Commonwealth Light Welter Weight champion retained his title with a 12 round decision win over Nigel Wright. Ranked number 8 in the world by the WBC before this fight Olusegun was hopping a win over Wright would move him up the rankings and get him a shot at current champ Junior Witter.
It was a clash of southpaws, with Wright winning the first half of the fight on the end of a stiff right jab as Olusegun looked to connect with some wild swings, and was not looking his usual classy self.
But in the second half of the fight the champion began to take over landing at regular intervals as the fight went on.
The judges had the fight just about right as the Nigerian moved to 22-0 and the brink of a world title shot.
Imo olusegun wasn't at his best tonight but was still able to pull of the win, I think he needed a tough fight and will learn a lot from it, he may well get a shot at witter in the next year or so.
