Junior Witter has rubbished claims from Demetrius Hopkins the American hadn't agreed to fight him.
It had been announced that Witter would put his WBC junior welterweight title on the line in Las Vegas on March 22 as part of the card featuring Joel Casamayor's lightweight title fight against Michael Katsidis.
But the 27-year-old - nephew of Bernard Hopkins - has now claimed he never agreed to the fight, though he hasn't ruled out getting in the ring with the man they call 'The Hitter'.
Witter, though, isn't buying it.
In open letter to Hopkins, he said: "You've obviously got your uncle's name, but it seems you haven't got his courage.
"How can you say you never agreed to take this fight? These are your quotes in your interview with Jake Donovan from boxingscene.com on January 18, nine weeks before our March 22 fight:
"'We called out everyone, but Junior's the one that stepped forward. So, much respect to Witter for stepping up. He'll regret it, but he still earns my respect for agreeing to the fight. Come March 22, I'm just going to be myself. I'll bring something new to the table, and by the end of the night I will get that belt.'
"Even your trainer Derek Ennis said: 'He's been wanting a fight like this for at least a year now. Junior Witter is a good fight for Demetrius; he's ready for the top fighters and needed a fight, so I'm glad to see him finally getting the opportunity'."
Witter concluded: "If you're concerned about the money and you're as confident as you say you are why don't you back yourself to win, or better still why don't you bet on me to knock you out and then you will definitely earn big money."
