Hopkins: "I Still Won't Lose To a White Boy"

Hopkins just said that statement to sell the fight, he even winked at Joe when he originally said it, it was a setup to cause controversy and generate more interest in the fight and it wasn't meant to be taken so sensitively. Even Joe himself knows it was, in his own words, pantomime. Hopkins is friends and business partners with De La Hoya remember, which says it all.
And back to the original post, Hopkins didn't say "I still won't lose to a white boy" he just quickly skated over the subject when questioned by the British press.

If Pavlik were to say "I'll never lose a black person" before he fights Taylor. And I came here and tried to claim people were "****in ******ed" for calling him a racist, because he was only trying to hype the fight. I would be considered the Grand ****ing Wizard of boxingscene. There's ways to hype a fight, and there's ways to look like a fool. Bhop is the latter.Comment

Bernard Hopkins got a plan. White people wouldn't be with him in anyway (think Hatton vs Mayweather) although he shouldn't have picked race. I'd go with nationality instead. Because even though the majority of the white people (cept for his white fans) would be booing the american anthem that night, they wouldn't be booing as hard. Bernard Hopkins wanted to be the bad guy in this fight (usually works better for blacks) but he overdone it. I have white people in my family but ain't mad at Hopkins, i know he's not a racist. True racists don't show it, they keep it for themselves 80% of the time, while being eat inside.Comment

**** that. He thinks that by doing ****** **** his fights are going to sell, just because he got away with it on the tito fight, by throwing the PR flag on the floor. Tito turned ***** at that point. BHOP would've died that day if he did something like that around a puerto rican who don't give a ****. Anyway, I'm going to go for Joe because I don't think Joe will lose to the coon, ya don't like it right?Comment

Hopkins is anything but ignorant when it comes to the business of boxing, especially when it comes to promoting a fight. What I don't understand is that Hopkins admitted that he's being controversial to promote the fight, yet so many people continue to be riled up.
Anyway, I love the quote in your sig from hopkinsfan69.
Yeah I get what you're saying. I expected controversy, but damn. I didn't know he'd take it to race. I personally don't give a **** that he said it. I just like seeing people get riled up when he's called a racist.
lol.. It is a classic quote, that's for sure.Comment

Yall are doing just what Hopkins wants you to. You gettin' all steamed about nothing. He's just sitting back and laughing like, "Yeah, they'll keep arguing over this and they'll buy the fight on PPV." So all yall going to tune in for different reasons. Rather to see the "racist" go down, or to see Calzaghe get exposed, either way you're gonna c it...Comment
