It embarrassed him, sure, but the date Shaw had reserved (June 9), he still kept, with the Dawson/Tarver doubleheader, AND still got paid off of the Jones-Hanshaw fight that he didn't have to invest in, or attend. So in the end, Shaw still got paid without skipping a beat. It's not as if he was guaranteed to get rich off of a Roy Jones fight (especially against someone like Hanshaw).

That said, what Roy says and what he does are often two different things. He said after the Ruiz fight that he'd never again work with King. Yet there he was, not only fighting on a King card once again, but allowed King to pimp his ass all through the fall and winter to hype up the show.

aye yi yi, Roy's weight for the Ruiz fight becomes more and more of an urban myth with each post.

Roy weighed 193 - in sweats - for the Ruiz fight. He was in phenomonal shape, but also for the first time probably in his life showed slight signs of love handles. He weighed in the day of the fight at 199, clothed.

I don't think he ever cracked 200, and if he did, it wasn't additional muscle. From weigh in to weigh in (EIGHT months apart), he went down 18 lb. What he did between then and when he elected to train for the Tarver fight was his own business. Not to mention that he failed miserably on two subsequent occasions to validate the claim that, once fully replenished, he handles Tarver.

Roy weighed in at 200+ for the Ruiz bout. Watch the ESPN story of the fight.

I saw the Dec card with Tarver taking on Santiago, i thought that was a ****ing joke! To think he wanted Lacy is even worse! After he takes on Woods (and losses) he should take Dawson, then RJJ and end his career with 3straight losses.

I respect Shaw, he sounds like an intelligent man, Tarver on the other hand is a big mouth, whose claim to fame is his "one punch" wonder knockout of Roy Jones. Hey Antonio....what have you done for me lately?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this card, especially considering the Dawson/Johnson fight should be entertaining. Both, Shaw and Tarver, know that Jones is the draw at light heavy, regardless of the past. So there response to Jones' comments is typical rhetoric from a promoter and his fighter, just to hype a potential show-down.

As much as I would love to see Tarver stretched, I'll be rooting for him to beat Woods. So down the road we can see Jones/Tarver 4......billed. "The Final Chapter" Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

To this day people still attribute boxers getting older and losing fights to them not being hungry anymore.

Fine, in some cases this could be true. Not so in Roy Jones. The man relied for so long on straight athletic ability that when he started slowing down people caught up. There is nothing Roy can do to EVER get that back. It has nothing to do with being hungry.

Hell, even after Trinidad/Jones after Roy started saying, "I'm back" the only reason he even won the fight was because he was bigger and could walk-down a blown up junior middleweight. And he never stepped on the gas to even attempt to put him away. Congratulations Roy!

Roy was one of the greatest I've ever seen...but those days are gone now and will never come back.
