Maccarinelli vs Haye: a geniune 50/50

I'm a bit bemused that nobody apart from seemingly the Welsh are give Enzo a chance. Maccarinelli holds all the advantages here. Haye IS going to be weight drained. He is far too big for Cruiserweight, and is actually a pretty decent sized Heavy, bigger than current champs like Ibragimov and Chagaev. Losing over two stone to make weight is too much. Especially for a big man.

Haye said against Mormeck that his legs went when he got hit in the fourth. It wasn't a huge punch, his legs just failed him. Maccarinelli will hit him alot harder given the openings, and there will be openings. David hangs his hand so low, and Macca is good enough to get some through and realistically only needs a few to land. The result will be a Macca stoppage victory if this happens.

I think Haye is getting paid £700,000 for the fight. Obviously alot of money, but I'm not sure it is worth it in the greater scheme of things. A loss to Macca would be so damaging. I think he would have been better off stepping up to heavy.

Haye is one of my favourite fighters and from a fans perspective I'm glad he is fighting Enzo, it will be good, but unless he knocks Enzo out reasonably early within the first 5 or 6, he is not going to win. Of course Haye lands fast and hard and has that take or be taken out mentality. He could blow out Macca early but that won't detract from what a massive risk he has taken.

    A genuine 50/50.

I think the sensible thing for Mac to do is to drag the fight into the later rounds and exploit Haye's conditioning issues. I`m sure, being in the Calzaghe camp has made him into a cardio monster.

Haye in the early rounds, or Mac in the later rounds. it could go either way, but i will side with Haye just based on the fact that he's fought higher quality opposition.

I don't know what it is about this fight or these fighters, but I've read some ridiculous, misinformed and downright idiotic nonsense on this forum in relation to this bout.

I've got Enzo in this one, mainly for the reasons in the first post, but it wouldn't surprise me if Haye takes him out early. Either way it's my most looked forward to fight of 2008.

yeah definetely, maybe one of my most anticipated fights since I've been a fan.

Haye is right, everyone wants to look at a car crash. Someone is getting wrecked.

I'm leaning more towards Macca each day, but I want Haye to win. It'll be nice to have a decent heavyweight who could challenge.

A defeat for Haye doesn't necessarily stop that from happening. To be honest, I think this is a dumb career move from Haye - he's flawed but has a real chance of being a titlist at HW but I fear he'll be too weak at CW to compete with a pretty solid if not as spectacular Enzo who IMO is the only CW out there who could compete with Haye.

I'm also a big fan of both so I'm going to enjoy this anyway.

Because of Haye's weight drain disadvantage and Enzo's speed and power at cruiser, I agree this is a 50/50 gamble. Haye early, Enzo late.. even Haye practically admitted it himself.

Yeah, it's a big risk for Haye. He deserves kudos for putting his future earning potential in the balance to get this fight on. And what of the non-financial rewards if he blows Enzo away? Are they even that huge? In prestige terms, Enzo stands to gain more from beating Haye than vice versa.
Fans are the ones benefiting most and The Hayemaker takes the thanks for that. I fear for him a little, because I don't see him putting Maccarinelli's lights out before Enzo first sees an opportunity or two.
We'll wait and see, but I'll be supporting Haye and hoping he pulls it off.
