Here is a biased look at Joe Frazier's career.

You can make any fighter look bad if you are negative enough.

    Appreciate.
TheManchine- I get your point. But there are many REAL facts in your acute letter, apart from a top guy having a "bad night". I came up during that era and have all the critical articles written about Ali, how he did everything WRONG, which, according to boxing experts, were accurate. It was just that Ali was more bombastic, cleverer with his tongue and formed a cult. And the period, the anti-war movement the hippies, the rebellion against authority, the Black ******s etc., all played a large part into making him a martyr. He LOVED it. As for Cleveland Williams, he actually almost fits your tongue-in-cheek description. He LOOKED terrific, since he was a bodybuilder. But just over a year before, he'd been stopped by a policeman, taken out of his car, shot twice in the stomach, was rushed to hospital where he was at death's door for literally months. Eventually emerged, emaciated and without a kidney, spleen and over 8 feet of intestine etc. this is absolutely true. I have the Boxing Mags reports on the whole thing. The judge was informed by the doctors that the only thing that saved him was that he had an almost 6 inch covering of muscle on his stomach at the time, which slowed the point-blank shots. But his insides were well mangled up permanently. He had no business at all fighting any more. But the only way he could earn money was to fight, and, although KO'd twice in a couple of rounds by Liston, had a very good record otherwise. I have the fight with Ali. He was pathetic, dead slow, no timing, really pathetic, which allowed Ali to go through all his "motions" and playacting, as if Williams was just a slowly revolving heavy bag, which, in fact, he was. I can never understand why the fans always say that this fight showed Ali at his peak, because it was really sad, as was his Zora Folley fight, with Folley already washed up and in his mid 30's. Don't forget, a fighter at that age, in those days, was 99% of the time, FINISHED. More or less like Ali was heading at the same age. I don't condemn him for that, although i'm very critical of those who encouraged him to fight. Even though Ali's present condition was already well entrenched before it became obvious, nobody could handle his entourage-supported ego. His best fights were with Frazier. Sorry, this isn't intended to turn into a comment on Ali. It was a sad way for the "Big Cat" to go.

What I said about Lewis is only what the videos I have show. After his post-fight interview with Merchant, in which he still denigrated his opponent, I changed from being an admirer to a critic, which i remain to this day.

But you have to admit he has a better resume than EVERY of the current champions of the ABC bodies.

Eh, not a good idea. 4 and a half year lay off, 41 years old....

ALUCARD- Yes you're right, but, apart from W.Klitschko, none of the others is long enough established to have any valid sort of championship resume. And WK's resume is pretty solid enough to compare, so far. I mean that the fights he lost are pretty well explainable by events other than that the opponent was a better guy. When he fought Purrity, he was a kid of about 20-21, a pro just 2 yrs, and Purrity was his 25th fight. For 10 rounds he bounced Purrity all over the ring, (like he did Brewster in later years) and wore out in the 11th. his corner stopped it. As for the Brewster fight, i'm certain that he was ill. His real failure was Sanders, and that can, and has, and does, happen to ANYBODY, even Joe Louis. Who knows what his record will be when he's 37-38? Right now he's overwhelmingly fancied to crumble any of the other titleholders and top contenders, which is basically what Lewis did, although it took him longer. And as far as "visual appeal" is concerned, I'd rather watch WK than Lewis ANY DAY. With WK you see real skill, and you keep waiting for that lightning sharp right hand, with Lewis you see skill alright but overshadowed with caution, grappling, leaning down heavily on his opponent, and sleep-inducing technique.

            Klitschko does have his moments.

But he also has his bad moments just like Lennox Lewis did.

Sure Lewis sounded arrogant after the Vitali fight but he is still a great fighter.

            Even Vitali agrees.

You make your points in a clever way, and say what I did, only better. It's just a matter of personal preference.

                  wtf Edgarg!

Did you enjoy Klitschko hugging his way to victory over Peter? Wlad is a very robotic upright style fighter who rarely goes to the body and never mixes it up (does he posses an uppercut?). He's very predictable but his physical prowess and athletic talent are what gets him through.

I don't know how you could find Lewis dull and get excited watching Klitschko.

lewis's own trainor even thought he should have given vitali the rematch. he won the fight fairly,,,,but considering the way the fight went he should have rematched vitali and then retired

Lennox is very smart for staying retired. I hope he continues to be so smart.
