Vladimir Virchis Refusing To Fight Juan Carlos Gomez

Vladimir Virchis will not fight Juan Carlos Gomez on March 8th, 2008. “The Hunter” clearly explained to his promoter Universum/Spotlight that he needs more time to prepare for a fight of this importance and will not sign a fight contract for the proposed date. He needs at least eight more weeks of preparation. [details]

I thought Gomez was the one bitching out? Now it's Virchis?

These two are never going to fight. We can blame any and all

If this report is true, then I have lost all respect for Virchis. Both he and Gomez are being crybabies. They've had since November to prepare for this fight.

But I just read on ESB that the author of this press release, Oleg Hug, works for Arena Box-Promotions as matchmaker! That's the company that promotes JC Gomez. It all seems rather confusing, but I'll wait and see what Universum has to say about it.

I don't know why, but my gut tells me this fight will go down anyway. That matchmaker news as posted above me is a bit su****ious. It could just be wind from JCG's camp to try to deflect the blame in the potential downfall of the matchup.

It's a strange situation. Hopefully the fight will happen and Gomez can finally get his shot at a title afterwards.

I don't think Gomez would win. He's made it more than clear that he mentally isn't in this fight. When his head isn't in the right place he is garbage in and out of the ring. Virchis is a good enough fighter to do away with a non-motivated Juan Carlos Gomez.

Gomez has only paid the price for 'not being there' once in his entire career, so I' not sure how valid your statement is. There's no way in hell he'd take a fight of this importance lightly.

Yes, because he also faced such fantastic competition in that empty at the time CW division. No one could touch him no matter how out of it he was.

The skill of the man has never been in question though. A boxer like Gomez will always find it hard to get fights. I think there's enough evidence there that shows what he's about. Even his more recent bouts against McCall show he has some grit along with his skill. Make no mistake about it either, McCall is still a very dangerous fighter even now.
