So it looks like Khan's team are looking beyond Thaxton:
Promoter Frank Warren says he wants Amir Khan to fight European champion Yuri Romanov next - or make his debut in the United States.
Warren is expected to make a decision on the East-West dilemma in the next few days, after jetting to America on Sunday to hold high level talks with television executives.
If Khan did fight in America, it would not be on the Joe Calzaghe-Bernard Hopkins card in Las Vegas on April 19
The pair fight on different television networks (ITV and Setanta), effectively ruling out that possibility.
A showdown with Romanov - who beat British hopes Steve Murray and Bobby Vanzie - would be likely to take place on April 5 in Bolton, Khan's home town.
"I need to talk to Amir and various other people to decide what the next step is," said Warren following Khan's clean sweep of Gairy St Clair at the ExCeL Arena on Saturday night.
"I'd love to take him to the States and show everyone over there what he's all about."
Khan has long expressed a desire to fight in America, and it may now be the time to expose him to a wider audience.
His fights have already been screened on HBO, and he has a growing fan base across the Pond.
A fight with Romanov would easily be the biggest test of Khan's career, especially as the Belarussian has built a reputation as slick operater on the fringe of world class.
"I love keeping busy," said Khan. "I'm going to have a couple of weeks off and then I'll be back in the gym preparing for my next fight."
