  • Haye: My health is on the line

DAVID HAYE admits he is ******** with his career by taking on Enzo Maccarinelli.

Haye, 27, insisted he would never fight again at cruiserweight after beating Jean-Marc Mormeck to become the WBC and WBA champion in November.

But the Londoner will put his body through hell once again by shedding more than TWO stone to make the 14st 4lb weight limit required to face WBO title holder Maccarinelli.

Haye said: "I vowed my next fight would be at heavyweight — that is why this clash is very dangerous.

"It's not my natural weight so fans will turn up to gawp as people want to see a car crash.

"Somebody is going to get hurt — but this is the sort of pressure I thrive on.

"I know I'll face retirement if I lose. If it doesn't go my way my career is over.

"Even people who know me think I'm crazy, but I have to put it all on the line. That's the way I am."

Haye, who faces Maccarinelli at London's O2 Arena on March 8, added: "If you want big things, if you want to work on your legacy, you have to make sacrifices.

"I always get the best out of myself when I am up against it. The risk is going to be worthwhile."

Its a shame more boxers dont take this stance on their careers, so many are cautious and over protected (warren!)

He is already making excuses, how ridiculous. This is his excuse if enzo beats him, I hope enzo beats him because I don't enjoy boxers who make excuses. And I normally like Haye, but he is already coughing up so many excuses, no one forced him to sign the contracts with enzo.

How about giving credit to Haye for bending over backwards to make a fight that you, me and every other boxing fan has been crying out for for years

He should have fought him years ago when he wasn't so called having problems making weight. I'm sure Enzo wanted him back then aswell, and I'm split because I like Enzo mainly because he's a friend of Calzaghe and has trained with Calzaghe so of course I will be rooting for Calzaghe. If it were the other way around if Haye trained with Calzaghe then I'd be rooting for Haye. Haye should be the favored boxer going into the match, but he should already know that this fight is going to be a tough one, maybe even harder then Jean-Marc Mormeck. I know that Enzo is way faster then Mormeck, but I don't totally know if he has the power to hurt Haye at all because you can look at a mans ko record, but what you have to look at is there resume and see who they fought. Yes, Enzo has about the same ko ratio as Mormeck, but who did those two fight to get as far as they got?

This fight is such an intresting match up because both Haye and Enzo are fast fighters, they throw pretty fast when they need to. I can't wait until this fight happens, its really hard to predict what will happen because almost anything can happen in this match up.

            This **** is outrageous.
Lets point a few things out.
"This fight should have happened years ago...."
Well Haye has only been a PRO since the end of 2002 so has only been in the game 5 years.
He has had 20 fights and in that short space of time won the Euro & Undisputed World titles.
Enzo has been a PRO for 3 YEARS LONGER and hasn't faced ANYBODY as good as Haye has.
His defining moment was a Hard fought win over an INACTIVE Braithwaite who has lost 3 of his last 4.
His WBO belt was worthless and which Champ did he beat to get it?
So before you slag Haye take a look at the Career of Enzo and to be honest of most Boxers in ANY DIVISION.
How many other Fighters out there can proclaim to have beaten the Undisputed champ by their 20th fight?

To add to what I previously wrote.
Haye doesn't even need to fight Enzo.
He already beat the recognised Champ.
It is also a well known fact he struggles like hell to get down to the weight.
For any fighter that is dangerous when you boil down to meet a Big puncher.
He is hardly making excuses and simply stating the obvious.
It is quite ridiculous to suggest Haye is scared of fighting Enzo after facing Mormeck.
Also why hasn't Enzo been chasing fights with O'neil Bell , Fragomeni , Mormeck ?
Instead he has been fighting Mark Hobson , Bobby Gunn and Old man Braithwaite.
And why did he waste time chasing the Ultra boring Johnny Nelson for so long?
David Haye has done British boxing proud and it pisses me off to see ignorant idiots slag him off.

                Great points.

Enzo is a good fighter but he has been protected by Warren for the obviously selfish reasons Warren protects all his fighters.

Haye is the recognised Champion, Haye is the one putting the true legacy on the line and Haye is the one who is having to boil down to make the weight.

Haye has it all to lose whilst Enzo Maccarinelli has it all to gain. I dont see this as Haye making excuses, I see it that Haye is simply pointing out the obvious facts. If it was about excuses then Haye would not have agreed to take this fight after all he holds all the cards, if it was about excuses then Haye would have insisted that they forget the belts and fight at a fairer catch weight type weight.

Haye is taking a real risk in boiling down to take on a huge puncher and I respect him for that.
