According to the AAP, promoter Gary Shaw will file an official protest with the IBF over the officiating during Saturday's bout between Vic Darchinyan (29-1-1, 23KOs) and Z Gorres (27-2-2, 15KOs) in Cebu City in the Philippines. The IBF super flyweight eliminator was scored a draw by the three judges. Shaw says the referee and the judges were overwhelmed by the hostile Filipino crowd that threw bottles and objects into the ring during the fight. Darchinyan's trainer Billy Hussein was hit in the head by a plastic bottle at the end of the fight. [details]

Darchinyan camp to protest!
Darchinyan camp to protest!
Sunday, February 3 2008
Vic Darchinyan's promoter Gary Shaw says he will file a protest with the IBF over the controversial draw between Darchinyan and Z Gorres in a world title eliminator in the Philippines. "The referee [Lance Revill] had never done a world title fight outside New Zealand and I think he felt the pressure of the hostile environment in the first round and it affected the way he officiated the next 11 rounds, missing two clear knockdowns," Shaw told AAP. "I think it also affected the Thai judge [Montol Suriyachand] who scored the 10th and 11th rounds (for Gorres) which were clearly Vic's rounds on the scorecards of the other officials, he was the dissenter. I don't know how the Australian judge [Cec Perkins] could see the fight even. I think he may have been feeling the environment as well."Comment

First of all the commentators were very biased from the start. They were commentating a one-sided fight only calling Gorres' shots and criticising Vic Darchinyan. This is a world championship fight with people watching from all corners of the world. They were very unprofessional in portraying Vic Darchinyan always mentioning that he is a "Dirty Fighter" who lacks skill. Even when Vic would connect, Donaire would not mention it, rather talk about how dirty a fighter Vic really is. Vic pulled up his leg in the beginning rounds, and Donaire instantaneously labeled it a KNEE to Gorres. This is BULL****. I am personally going to walk to Freddie Roaches Wild Gym and have a talk with Donaire.
Second of all there were several instances during the fight where Vic knocked down Z Gorres, but the ref ruled it a slip. Watch the fight and you will see. The ref, in my opinion, was a joke. He shouldn't be allowed to ref world class fights, he belongs in underground boxing clubs.Last edited by Googler; 02-03-2008, 04:43 PM.Comment
