This is unheard of by me although now a popular tatics. You see dozens of people who aren't clearly Bernard Hopkins' fans overhyping and glorifying Hopkins deeds, while conviniently abstracting from the fact the man is 43 years of age, for the sole porpose of making the over antecipated victory of Calzaghe a big deal. Is this really what boxing as come down to? Who will buy this for god's sake?
Calzaghe fans hyping Hopkins up?

well he did beat two p4p fighters back to back. I guess that does suggest some pedigree, irrespective of age. -
i think hopkins is a respectable opponent not cuz of the old man skills but cuz the fight is in las vegas and bs always happens with the judges thereComment

Of all sports i've never seen any so time dependent as boxing. You see a 30 year old being world champion, then 2 years later he is finished. Even if you strech you career you can only go so long. In the particular case of Hopkins (of course his new "fans" don't care/know this) you can see him clearly aged in his last fight. He clintch too much and he not fast at all. His footwork is amazingly gone! Not only he will be too slow for Calzaghe all night, but he will also be a sitting target. Cong**** to Calzaghe camp, i don't think he will look any better than that night. The man will look like SRR vs Hopkins. I wish to see him fight Pavlik or Taylor instead. Not alot of talent in the division though.Comment

Bernard Hopkins is the Randy Couture of Boxing....he is still going strong at age 43 and he is coming off back to back wins over p4p fighters.
Joe Calzaghe, who is also getting up there in age himself, should get a lot of credit when he decisively beats Hopkins and makes him eat his racist words.
I'm sure the Hopkins nuthuggers will discredit Calzaghe after he beats Hopkins though and bring up the age card.
Hopkins is the best available opponent for Calzaghe right now and he should definitely get the credit he deserves when he whoops Hopkins' ass.Comment

And Calzaghe's victory, which I think is almost inevitable, will be important if not a "big deal". Besides being a fight between two upper P4P boxers, It will also mark the last stand of a future Hall of Famer (Hopkins).
As a fan of both fighters, I can't wait to see whether Bernard is crafty enough to overcome his massive handicaps; punch-output and age.
I don't think he is, but I want to watch.Comment

And Hopkins should get credit for fightnig him. If Cal wins by a round or two in decision, it should say that Calz is GARBAGE. Instead of praising Calz win (if he gets it, which I dont think he will), it should make it that much more clear that if they would have fought in their primes Hopkins would have killed Calz EASILY.Comment

Randy Couture fights 3 rounds, not 12. In mma and kickboxing you don't need to be as sharp because if you're not hitting home with ur jab you can go for the takedown, etc etc. Comparing these two show you are a child really.
I fail to understand how can you glorify someone who has already won, months before the fight happens.Comment

In every sport you will get people that defy the ageing process, but they need to be fit AND smart. Boxers that rely on phenomonal reflxes more than ring craft will peak earlier and are more likely to retire (or get beat into retirement), clever boxer will change their style to adapt to the tools they have left. Bernard is probably the best example of this and ironically Joe C is another. April19th will tell us everything we'll need to know.Comment
