Keep in mind, the fight was to be a non risk "stay active" fight to set up for the more meaningful fight. What decent bum out there who actually is a name with the casual fan should Cotto have pounded on?

I agree with you. But there are TOO many people on here are somehow "appalled" at this decision by Arum to choose Gomez for the tune up fight. I want to understand why it is such a big deal that Cotto is going to do a televized sparring session to set up his much more meaningful and difficult fight with Margarito only a couple of months later. I personally do not see ANY problem with watching a free televised sparring match. But I want to see who these dudes feel could have been a better choice for a tune up who could provide more exposure and anticipation as risk free as Alfonso Gomez.

collazo cintron or clottey none of these guys are tune ups, very tough fights.
who's the # 1 ranked guy by the WBA. Gomez definately does not deserve a shot, he's done nothing.
