    Was DeMarcus Corley's power underrated?

He hurt both Floyd (who has seldom been hurt) and Cotto (who actually hasn't been hurt a ton of times either).

Everyone says he doesn't have any power, but he did hurt two elite boxers, which isn't easy to do.

    Thoughts?

He has early power, but late in fights he doesn't maintain his pop. Usually by the 5th or 6th round, he's pushing his shots. If you saw his fight with Felix Flores when he won the WBO 140 title, he destroyed this guy who just went the distance with Joshua Clottey.

Corley's advantage is that he's a southpaw and knows how to pivot and move his shoulders so his opponents don't see the punches. He's most effective with that right hook, particularly as a counter because you can't even see it coming.

If Corley trained harder, he could've been something serious. I felt he could've beaten Judah and Cotto if he came in good shape and focused. Against Mayweather, well, he couldn't have done too much better really. He really took a lot of punishment there.

I was real impressed with the power Corley showed with his 1st round KO over Felix Flores on Showtime. After a few more fights I wrote it off as a fluke. Then those two incidents you mentioned caused me to reconsider. I guess the way to sum it up is to say Corley's power is/was sporadic.

Yeah, I saw him fight Judah... haven't seen the Cotto fight, just highlights.

He looked lethargic as **** against Judah, he really could have done much better.

Did he ever hurt Judah? I can't remember. I remember he got absolutely destroyed by one punch from Judah, and I was pretty surprised that he got up.

I agree about the Mayweather fight though... Mayweather was wreckless that night. No other way to put it, and he still beat Corley pretty soundly. If he was being a defensive counterpuncher, he would have taken a lot less damage than he did, but still would have cruised to a UD I think.

It was an ugly fight, but I thought Corley caught Judah with a few clean shots early that had Judah shaking his head, which usually means he was affected. Nonetheless, if Corley applied himself more, he could've been a decent champion. He spends too much time in woman's clothing and not enough in the gym.

Corley is a good boxer. His natural punching power is a non-factor. His timing seems to be great though. He caught both Cotto and MAyweather in between punches, stunning both fighters greatly, putting Cotto into bad shape for the better part of a round.

He just isn't great enough to elevate his game when he has a guy like that hurt.
