Recently a promotion approached the State’s commission trying to get an 8-man elimination tournament here in MN. The event would have featured older heavyweights boxing 5-3 minute rounds each bracket of the tournament – So the finals would be looking at possible 15 rounds. These would be pro fights; regular gloves, no head gear. We are suppose to be following ABC’s rules which I understand specifically outlaw this type of event.
The commission did deny the promoters of the event a date. However the promoter of the event (Who I think is named Huse or House???) continues to meet with the head of the commission who I believe is the event’s sole supporter on the commission. I know they have tried to hold this event before. I believe they tried in several states and Australia.
The had a number of arguments, the first being boxing 15 rounds over 3 fights in one night is not dangerous. They also claimed to have others willing to take the fight and suggested holding the card in Dubai. They also offered to indemnify the members of commission. The commission held firm. However I believe this fight is far from over and they will likely take another run at this event.
I would like to hear from forum members anything they might know about this promoters or event and about this sort of event. I have never heard of any commission approving of this sort of event.
