Calzaghe Vows To Ko Hopkins For Fans

Calzaghe vows to down Hopkins for fans
by JP Lonergan, 28 January 2008

Joe Calzaghe says he will reward his loyal fans by defeating Bernard Hopkins in April’s super-bout in Las Vegas.

The Welshman takes on Hopkins in what will be a titanic light-heavyweight clash - that can be seen live on Setanta Sports - on April 19 and he is supremely confident that he will send Hopkins to the floor.

"I always go in prepared," said Calzaghe. "As long as the best Joe Calazaghe turns up, I don't care what he brings to the ring.

"He could bring a couple of his bodyguards into the ring and he's still going to get done."

After watching fellow Briton Ricky Hatton fighting in America last month, Calzaghe was drawn to the idea of fighting in America. Hatton had thousands of supporters in his corner in his defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr and Calzaghe hopes for the same when he tackles Hopkins later this year.

"Why do I want to go over there? The unbelievable support, the British fans making it all the way over there was awesome,” he added.

"The reception Ricky received in the fight was incredible. I want a piece of that.

"Watching Ricky fight in America made my mind up that I wanted a piece of the action. He got a tremendous reception from the British fans, the best fans in the world.

"I owe it to them and I owe it to myself. I am going out there to see my name in lights. I am going to be one of the few people to go out to America and do the business."

When has Hopkins ever been KO?

So now Joe has horse power to KO B-hop?

Joe might win but it will not be by KO! I'm willing to bet all of my points on that.

Youve got to admit Hopkins probably deserves to get KOd hes an ass, but Id rather see Joe beat Hopkins in every round as Bhop would probably find this more humiliating.

we can hope he knocks B Hop out for beeing such an idiot ,ultimately though i cant see it happening unless B Hop quits that is the only was Joe will get a TKO which is not that far out of the realms of possibilty if Hopkins 40+ year old body cannot take the heat whe Joe is throwing over 1000 punches a round

i still see a decision however ,for Joe obviously

I don't think he would be able to KO him out cold. The only way I can see him winning by KO is hitting him flush with a flurry of punches and the ref stepping in.

I hope Joe comes to this fighting thinking KO and steps in that ring and tries his hardest to KO Hopkins. Because that kind of mentality will get HIM ko'd. He needs to stay focused and be realistic. I doubt he really means it though and I'm sure is training to go the distance.
