Can anyone ever heard of a great fighter....

moving down in weight to fight smaller fighters and taking a "tune up" fight?

Many great fighters have even moved up in weight without a "tune up".

Jones moved down twice but didn't have a tune up fight. HW to LH
Maywether just did it but didn't have a tune up fight. JM to WW
Hatton has done it recently but didn't have a tune up fight. WW to JW

And Im sure there are others, but I can't think of any great fighters that have moved down in weight and have needed a tune up fight.

    Any names?

I also haven't heard of a fighter taking a "tune up" fight with a fighter smaller and in a lower weight class than the fight they are preparing for.

Can someone tell me who has done this before?

can't think of any at the moment, and i'm not sure if i'd really say the fishnet is going down in weight to fight floyd.

they're meeting at a catchweight which will again be above anywhere mayweather has fought other than when he's beating the world's most famous cross-dressing boxer.

fight two weight classes below the weight he will actually fight at.
