..JORGE PAEZ JR.: How Far Can He Go?...

The kid looked pretty good in his first dozen or so fights. Before fighting Ramon Guevara, he was 13-0 with 8 KOs. He lost to the unheralded Guevara and then went 5-0 with 2 KOs. All together, he's 19-1-0 with 10 KOs, his lone loss comin' by way of 4th round TKO.

He has pretty solid power and had nice hands. But his chin and defense were less than perfect, to say the least.

His opponents have had a combined record of 106-82-10, at the time of facing him. Less than a handful had fewer than 3 losses on their records before facing him. Two fighters had never won a single fight. One of those fighters fought him AFTER his first loss.

The man who beat him was 7-11 and went on to lose his next 5 fights AFTER stopping Paez.

My questions are, what are your thoughts on Paez, what he needs to improve upon and how well do you think he can do?

Keep in mind, he's still 20 years old. Which means he has room to improve. It also means that, most likely, he wont be making 140 for much longer. If he does, he has a fairly talented division, with guys like Torres, Holt, Hatton, Malignaggi, Hopkins and Witter. If he does move up, he's in there with the guys at 147. Including Mayweather, Cotto, Judah, Williams, Cintron, Margarito, Mosley and Collazo.

    Your thoughts?

I used to think he was going to get farther than I do now. It seems like after his loss he himself believes that he has a china chin and fights like it. Because he is more tentative now I think he has looked less and less sharp than he did before.
