I think he still gets hit too much at this point, and that's not a good thing against Wlad. If he could sharpen up his defence, his activity could possibly win him a decision, but he looks 2 or 3 years away from any chance of doing that.

Of course Wlad still has to get past Ibragimov, which is not 100% guaranteed (maybe about 90%.)

his chances would not be any better than byrd, ibragimov, brock had

i see Povetkin being content to take a little step aside money to let Klitschko defend his unified title against Tony Thompson and give himself time to get at least two more fights under his belt against world class competition. A fight with a guy like Golota or Dimitrenko would give him experience in dealing with a much bigger opponent.

He would fare badly against Wlad, the guy has no defense for a jab and counter right hand.

good points fellas. i feel as well that he is not ready, and needs more time! even so he may never be ready for wlad, but with more time to improve he will have that much better of a chance!

I've read that Povetkin's promotor said Wlad is planning on fighting Thompson first, if he gets by Sultan.

I like Povetkin and I'd hate to see him KOed by Wlad so early in his career. He'll never be the same after it happens.

That's a good idea. Wlad should fight Thompson, then unify with Chagaev, then Povetkin. In the meantime Povetkin can fight Golota and Dimitrenko.

Being the "mandatory contender" doesn't mean you have to exercise that option. Povetkin is being handled by smart people, and I expect him to be moved intelligently.

Would like to see Povetkin fight Golota next, as people have mentioned.

Good money, popular fight against a big, experienced vet, who just regained a lot of credibility, and will get him some much needed rounds.

Then I'd like him to fight Jameel McCline.
McCline's last showing against Peter shows him to be still a dangerous top level heavyweight challenger.
Good, solid test against a big guy with skills.

Atleast 2 high level bouts are needed in my opinion before he challenges Klitchko - a couple of solid fillers inbetween wouldn't be amiss either.
